Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Mirror(s) and lights for bathroom?

Hi guys, I'm hoping you can help me decide what sort of mirror(s) to put in my bathroom. Do you like two mirrors or one? We will need vanity lights above (unfortunately there is not enough room to put sconces on either side of the mirror(s). We realize that we will need to move the location of the lights, as well as the outlets. Would be grateful for your opinions.

Different -- could sleek with long LED bars over them? W 23.6" x H 31.5"

Personally, I'd do two unless 1) the center section will be used for someone to do their makeup (which I assume not by the cabinet configuration or 2) it's small. Otherwise two mirrors with lighting over it is more appropriate.

Jesse Fay thank you, that was my first thought but I keep seeing one mirror in photos so I thought I should ask. Do you have any advice on the size of the mirrors? The sink cabinets are 26 inches. My thought was that something close to that width (but no wider) would work, like 23 inches wide?

Hello! I'm really tight for space with my vanity - the vanity is 32" wide (33" with counter) and will be centered in an area between a wall and the toilet - area is approx 39" wide at it's widest. How can I put a mirror above the vanity and allow for side lights? Some of the side lights that I have found are only 5" wide and I can do a mirror that is 22-24" wide... Will this work? no, it wouldn't I mixed finishes in all my baths..looks pretty natural. I don't even think people notice..they just see bigger picture. Don't mix brushed nickel and polished nickel, or chrome and nickel, these are too close to mix successfuly. ORB is different enough from brushed nickel, and also gives that very neutral feel, it being dark..you should be fine. but you can also cross post your question in Home Decorating forum..there's usually where questions about colors etc. go. Or Bathrooms one..but Home Decorating has more traffic..you 'll get more responces

I find it confusing that you want to both make sure things go in your 1940s home, yet not look too dated. I would say that the large 3-section med cab is not dated enough. It is straight from the 1970s and 80s. You would better honor the era of the house if you go with two med cabs. Go with the larger ones if you can afford them and the alterations to the stud bays they will need. Is that vanity coming with that faucet? I would look for something with more curves, instead. The ones there are quite modern. Sconces on either side of a mirror provide the best light. You may be able to get three, with only one in the middle if the spacing on the wall works right, but you may need four. Or look for one with two lights in the center. Get out graph paper and draw your wall space, the cabinets you choose, and the placement of the sinks. You will have to work out the spacing to see if you can place sconces where they will fit on your wall, balance with each other, and not crowd the med cabs or any side walls.

It depends on the mirrors if you are asking about actual lighted mirrors. You usually don’t get an option for K and lumens they come all ready . I also think a ceiling light would be good for light balance .

If it's rectangle, 23 to 25 is good but if you are doing a an unusual shape, you can slightly over that size you are good because the irregular shape.

If you do 2, I would go oval to stop things from looking off-balance as to the sink vs mirror placement. with one two-light fixture over them.

Otherwise I would do one framed mirror with one 4 light over the center. the light will get to bounce around. the room on a whole and it might help the space look larger.

RL Relocation LLC, I very much appreciate your advice. I especially liked how you specified the number of lights and that the mirror should be framed. My husband doesn't like round or oval mirrors (isn't that weird of him?), so the one larger mirror may be the way that we go. Thank you very much for helping me.

I'd use one large mirror. You get much more and better light that way.

Based on the position of the sinks, two mirrors will end up spread wide apart and narrow. The fixture that will fit above may not be very wide either.

You could do something like this first example, with lighting above. Or two mirrors with one or two sconces between them.
