1940s main bathroom remodel - transitional lighting and mirror ideas

I'm trying to modernize the bathroom without making it too modern in this 80-plus-year-old house; bathroom is gutted so new fixtures, floor, tile etc. Transitional style seems right and I've ordered a 60" midnight blue double vanity. I would appreciate ideas for mirrors and lighting. As with old houses, there is not much storage so I am leaning toward two 19-20" medicine cabinets above the sinks (each is 17 ½"). If I do that, should I use sconces on either side or surface mounted lights above each cabinet? OR my contractor reminded me that there are still large mirrored medicine cabinets with 3 swing door openings. That would provide a lot of storage but would it look too dated? Thanks for ideas from those of you who have been there...
