Comments (6)The effluent from cooking rises and expands from the pan at an angle that can vary, but is in the 20-degree range. Collecting effluent from the controls is not necessary. Hence the hood location should emphasize dealing with the hob layout. What you want the hood centered over are the hobs, not necessarily the entire cook-top, unless it is important visually. If the controls are on the surface to one side, then the hobs are likely equally spaced front and back and thus the hood should be centered front-to-back on the cook-top. Otherwise, for the many designs where the controls are at the front, the hood center should be a bit farther back to better encompass the effluent rising symmetrically from the pans on the hobs. (If your hood is very large front to back so that it overhangs the entire cook-top by several inches, this won't matter as much.) Comments (32)Haley, I did end up buying the GE Café Induction cooktop just last year when the only feedback I found was this very thread. Since there wasn’t much data then, I based my decision on my last experience with GE and former cooktop. I LOVE THIS COOKTOP! I didn’t care for the layout of most others nor the fact that many of them used shared controllers for all burners which I still don’t get - when I’m bustling around the kitchen, I don’t want to be fumbling though the controls to quickly tend to a burner. I find the layout to be most efficient and useful for my needs. I like each burner has its own control. The slide controls are pretty slick although, not gonna lie, with a wet finger, the slider doesn’t completely respond but luckily there are the manual up/down buttons that do work. It brings water to a boil in about a minute. It has the two bridging burners for my cast iron griddle purposes. I find I don’t use it as much since the middle section does not heat up (where it did on my last GE cooktop which was not induction). However, Rudi does make a good point – it’s nice to have cooler zones.) The cooktop does come with a stainless steel clad aluminum griddle which does work pretty well on the bridge. The cooktop is easy to clean (I use a little Bon Ami or Bar Keepers to light scrub only when necessary) and looks beautiful. It doesn’t take much to make her sparkle! I have no scratches to speak of (outside of those caused by the tile samples a dear loved one set on top and shuffled around, which made me want to cry…) It can be noisier than standard cooktops at times but if I recall from my research last year, that’s induction (period). I do like the timer function. At first I thought it was such a silly feature when my oven timer was right there. Let me tell you I now use the built-in timer ALL. THE. TIME. We won’t discuss that I’m just now realizing it can be set for each burner! I’ll have to try that. I’m still not sure what the variances between the Monogram and Café are worth the dollar difference. Sure, the color of the Monogram is cool but that alone is not worth the price difference in my opinion. I spend a lot of time in my kitchen and this is definitely my favorite thing! Comments (26)So far so good cand. It's my first time on induction so I'm more focused on the induction itself as opposed to the Miele vs another. I've mainly been using the big hob on the right, as Chanop says. I haven't used the bridge or the timers yet. I also need to turn on the half step power settings. The hobs are definitely spread out enough to allow 3 bigger pieces of cookware at once. One thing I will note is that the burners are kind of set back from the front of the cooktop, more so than any range/cooktop I've used before. Perhaps the exhaust hood makes it seem even more so but only the front part of the bridge and the smallest hobs are near the front of the cooktop....See MoreGE Cafe 30 inch induction cooktop
Comments (6)I had decided on the Bosch, but a local distributor had a close out on the Profile at half price. I jumped on it and bought that and saved about $1200. They didn’t have a floor model so I wasn’t able to see it. What I like: there is a lip on both sides of the top that sit on the countertop like a cooktop would. It’s a sleek look and there’s no gap for foood to fall into. The range is very pretty. The control panel is in a very nice position at the top front, and the controls are very easy to use. What I don’t like: although the brochure says the broiler is 8 pass, it’s not really. And that I am really unhappy about. I specifically wanted an 8 pass broiler. It’s some kind of mickey mouse design that they can call 8 pass but it’s not. So, bottom line, I should have bought the Bosch....See Morewyosue58
