Updating kitchen with oak cabinets

I would like to do some updates to my oak cabinet kitchen. I'm not planning on updating appliances or painting cabinets at this time. I was thinking I'd like to paint the walls, change the cabinet handles, and update the backsplash and possibly floors. I will probably not change the counters, they're a neutral color and don't look too bad. For the wall paint, I was thinking of using a greige paint color but would be open to other paint colors. Update- I removed wallpaper and painted, got new flooring and cabinet handles and a new table/island that I can store my microwave on. Would eventually like to do something with my counters, possibly paint them and would like to get a backsplash, but I'm happy with the update for now.

- Remove wallpaper and backsplash
- Prime walls
- Replace flooring
- Replace baseboard in toe kick with oak to match cabinets
- Re-cover chair seats
- Test backsplash samples and pick one
- Test paint swatches and pick one
- Test new hardware options and pick one

Thanks so much, catmom, arcy, purrus, nini, and lisa! They did the real estate photos yesterday and after some light staging I think the house looked amazing. We just edited out a few more things from the counter and added some decor items. We brought in a bistro table and stools to take the place of the sideboard that was moved to the great room. I also used the floating shelf I just had made for over the tub and used it for the blank space over the sofa instead. I convinced DH to hang it as part of a compromise in which he did not have to move and rehang the heavy wall clock :) These are just a few cell phone pics but I can't wait to see the professional photos!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I need to stop over and get better pics. Were moving into the house but aren't going to do anything to the cabinets so I'm really looking for accessory suggestions on how to distract and have a more updated feel. We are changing the counter tops but they not in. Were going with a lighter cream or white granite with darker veins. The floor is a very light tan. Basically I'm imagining my kitchen will look like a traditional kitchen ppl usually do in a flip home. I don't want that but can't really change anything aside from accessories and other furniture that might give the room a more updated feel. As mentioned the walls are Parisian taupe. I feel like it's going to just be too yellow/tan feeling in the end. What kind of light fixtures, kitchen tables, colors, rugs, etc would help update honey oak cathedral cabinets with a lighter granite counter top and light tiled floor with Parisian taupe walls for example I found these ideas on Pinterest.

I love the kitchen and the new hardware did a lot to give it a more modern appearance. The cabinets are beautiful and look to be in great shape. Before I saw anyone’s comments, I also thought that the crown molding was too loud. It would look great painted black and/or smaller, thinner molding; the black would go with the iron railings. Countertops are awesome and really give it airy feel. Floor fits, but sorry, would not have been my first choice for replacement😢. Have fun! Enjoy what you have done so far!😁

grapefruit1_ar The countertop actually has specks of color in it but the color is sandstone. The tile floor is what I do not think will go with gray. I have been looking at BM Accessible Beige but do not want to much beige in the kitchen. I did look at some sage greens but just not sure. Thank you for your suggestion

Remove the wallpaper and clean the walls and use gardz primer on the walls after you have totally cleaned them. Then paint two coats of paint. Buy some new hardware for your cabinets, and change out that window valance. Your kitchen will look fresh, clean and nice. If you are using a neutral paint like you mentioned above, then put out some colorful accessories (in your favorite color) and a rug in front of your sink.

Definitely paint. New hardware. Accessories are a good idea. Don’t do too much. Rather save for a bigger remodel when you can.

I kind of like the wood, it’s not a bad stain-and not the dreaded honey oak!

You didn’t mention a budget so I’m assuming there isn’t much of one. The biggest offender is the wallpaper. For an almost-no-budget change, remove the paper and paint a warm white. Change hardware to black. Bring in accessories that are black and white. You have a great start with the rug.

Black and white with dark wood is a great look. Good luck!

Not sure if you have enough room to have a microwave installed above your stove? Would be nice to get that out of the way of your dining table.

If you are on the short side, dont put it above the stove. I agree its in an awkward spot, but, I see a cabinet next to the refrigerator, that would be a much better location for the microwave. It wouldnt be up against your chairs over there, so your table will function much better.

I agree with cat_ky. Just focus on getting rid of the wallpaper. I'd want a new kitchen table that wasn't glass topped befroe I spent money on almost anything else, but perhaps you love your table, so ymmv.

Yea, I'd like to find a better table for the space, the round one takes up a lot of room in my small kitchen. I brought the table with me from my apartment, haven't had a chance to get a new one yet.
