Painted oak cabinets - does this look like Edgecomb Gray?
Comments (18)Thanks, loribee and CLBlakey! It turns out we'll need to modify some cabinets and also the apron on my granite counters (who knows what that's hiding) in order to switch out the appliances. The PO remodeled and actually blocked in the appliances when installing the floor and counters after. Crazy. I'm considering whether I want to spend the extra money to make these changes and just refurbish my existing cabinets or save up for a complete remodel next summer. If we remodel we can get an updated look and also address some issues with the current layout. Obviously, a big cost difference but I'm not sure about spending money now to modify what I have if I'm still going to want a full remodel within a few years. If I do paint my existing cabinets, though, I'm definitely leaning towards the Edgecomb Gray! Donna - I don't think I'll stain the cabinets because my kitchen is already so dark and I truly lust over lighter kitchens but thanks so much for the link!...See MoreCeiling & Trim color reccomendations for BM Edgecomb Gray walls
Comments (14)Look at the Hex to Ral website. Type in Queen Anne’s Lace vs. Edgecomb Gray, and it will allow you to use this great paint comparison website FREE. Queen Anne’s Lace falls under five different brands. It makes a difference which brand. Edgecomb gray is paired with a lot of off whites because it’s a great combo; however, I chose SW Pure White due to the yellow undertone that exists in off whites—dove white, alabaster, etc. I painted my trim and cabinets in Pure White satin, the ceilings in Pure White flat, and all of my walls, including bathrooms, in Edgecomb Gray flat. It’s beautiful 😍 I’ve attached a picture of the results. BTW, my floors are LWFlooring, Dallas, Texas, LVP, long and wide planks....See MoreBM Edgecomb Gray & Balboa Mist turn Purple - SW Natural Tan pink. HELP
Comments (24)Neutral colors are a mix of different colors, so depending on what you have next to your neutral the neutral color appears to pink or blue or green or yellow. It really isn't a foreign concept to most women, we just haven't thought about paint color the same way we look at makeup and clothing. My sister has an olive skin tone and medium brown hair, I have an ivory skin tone and dark hair and my sister in law has blond hair, blue eyes and a fair golden skin tone. We don't look good in the same colors. Your home is full of colors. What looks good next to my purples and purple reds and smokey teals won't look good next to my sister's greens and golds and orange reds or next to my sister in law's cornflower blue, peach and butter yellows. We each had to pick neutrals that went with the decor and flooring and woods that fill our home. Can you imagine my purples, reds and teals with a moss green neutral a yellow tan or is it better with a taupe that has slightly purple undertones? Below is a demonstration of how neutrals can look very different based on the colors around them. Both sections have one color in the center of each block. It is the same color in each block all the way across the page, yet the color appears more pink or green or yellow or blue depending on the color next to it. If edgecomb gray is picking up purple you probably have yellow undertones around it. Edgecomb gray is a pretty solid neutral with just a hair more pink and less green than revere pewter. Baby Fawn or tapestry beige may work nicely - just a bit less pink/purple undertones and a hair more yellow. I would recommend that you pick your flooring before picking the paint color because it could also change the perceived wall color. If you can gather together samples of the colors that are staying and lay them out on a white sheet in natural daylight (I like to do this outside on a clear day) and look at a bunch of neutral swatches next to the colors you will start seeing the patterns. More yellow looks better or grayer looks better a little more green looks better....See MoreSW Agreeable Gray vs. BM Edgecomb Gray?
Comments (5)@mdefree So I ended up painting my living room Revere Pewter, and Edgecomb Gray for the rest of my first floor - kitchen/dining area, foyer, hall, stariway, guest room and master bedroom. The Revere Pewter is perfect in the living room - glad I decided to have a bit of contrast in that room. I am happy with the Edgecomb Gray, but it definately reads more beige than gray in my house (especially in the evening under artifical lighting) . It works because of all the existing hard elements, but I've had to rethink how I'm updating some of my accent pieces - I am finding that I have to be more intentional about the shades of gray I'm using to provide contrast against the Edgecomb Gray. I also choose SW Oyster Bay for my office - it's a prominent room off the foyer with french doors and it plays really nice with the Edgecome Gray walls that are adjacent to it....See MoreMaureen
