Somewhat as aside, for someone of his stature, the house is very modest. It does not even have privacy from the road.

As a 9 year old kid in Elk City, OK in 1950, I met Tim Holt, Fuzzy Knight & Randolph Scott who were some of my favorite cowboy movie stars that made personal appearances at a local movie theatre. And, during our town's 50th. anniversary in 1951 I met & shook hands with Jess Willard who had been the Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World, 1915-1919. He lived in my hometown during the early days & helped lay the bricks that paved Broadway St. and are still there and "in use" now in 2006! Moving ahead several years and after I had moved to PA...my wife & I saw Richard M. Nixon as he arrived by helicopter and dined at the then-famous Bookbinder's Restaurant in Philadelphia one evening while we were eating dinner there also. Then later, during the mid-1970's, we saw "The Duke" John Wayne in New York City getting out of his limousine and greeting the gathering crowd at Rockefeller Center. Guess that's about it... LarryD

powermuffin, we're almost neighbors! I live south of Longmont, but used to practice yoga at the studio on Tenacity Drive, and dated a guy who lived on Gay Street (some 16 years ago). He said the street name did give him pause when he bought the house, and though he managed to get over it enough to live there, like your husband he was quick to "explain" the name when giving out his address. My childhood home was on Walden Road, so no street I've lived on since has had a name that's half as idyllic. The streets in our current neighborhood are mostly last names, which is boring, but better than cutesie or pretentious I suppose.

Oh, that was fun! Agree, very modest home. It actually reminds me a lot of the home I grew up in. My mother was a huge DM fan and his music could often be heard playing in the house. One summer, while vacationing in a Lake Tahoe rental home and hanging out on the deck watching the golfers, my mother noted that one of them was Dino. She quickly grabbed the movie camera and with shaking hands got some good footage as he graciously waved to her. Needless to say, her life was then complete!

On the other hand, you can rent Frank Sinatra's house for $3,300 a night from AirBnB. It's one of the nicest houses in the Movie Colony of Palm Springs and does have a huge pool. It can easily accommodate eight people, plus a huge crowd for a party.

It used to have a movie screen in it with a projector, but I do not see that now, although I did see it on Huell Howser's California Gold show.

There can only be one reason. Name value to those home buying in CA. From the looks of the place someone over estimated the interest in Dean.

I was thinking the provenance has got to be a big factor.

And the Monroe property looks like it was remodeled, while Martin's looks untouched.

And of course asking price is almost meaningless, isn't it? Perhaps the difference is due more to greed, or whether the seller really needs money..?

Coincidentally, I just watched an old episode of Extreme Homes the other night and they profiled Sinatra's sprawling home. It was very eclectic, and the guy leading the tour said his favorite color was orange, so there was a lot of that. Wondering if the original decor is still there in other parts of the home not shown @ that AirBNB page?
