What are your phobias? Mine happened today!
Comments (33)Dentists here too - I have to be sedated or have an all-out panic attack (the screaming, barfing, peeing-yourself kind). Good thing about that, though, is that I can have 4 hours of dental work done in one sitting rather than having to go to multiple appointments. My dentist is a double-doc, he's also an MD in anesthesiology. Sadly, he's also hideously expensive, so I don't keep up as well with my dental work as I ought (medical insurance won't cover the anesthesia - which is the pricey part - since it's for dental work, and DH's employer's dental plan is a pathetic joke). Heights... I still have cold sweats remembering driving through the mountains in PA and the high, high, HIGH bridges I had to cross. Really peeved other drivers because I could only go about 35mph with my flashers on. I had this terror that if I went any faster I would go over the guard rail. Oh, and did I mention that it was windy, and that I was driving a Suzuki Samurai with a u-drag-it trailer - NOT what one would call a stable vehicle! Odd one - vomit. Seeing (even on TV or movie - when did it become so acceptable to show this in detail? they wouldn't show someone having a bowel movement...) or hearing someone throw up, or smelling vomit, is enough to send me right over the edge. Add me to the list of claustrophobes, too. I had my first head MRI back before open or partially-open MRIs were common, and I screamed nonstop through clamped-shut jaws during the whole 45 minutes. (Being, shall we say, horizontally gifted, I was in physical contact with nearly the whole tube, and then they put this cage thing over your face... *shudder*) They gave me ONE puny little Xanax. DH was on the microphone repeating "if you touch that button or move an inch, you're going to have to start over from the beginning" in a very stern voice. Now pretty much all the MRI machines around here are open or semi-open and it's a piece of cake....See MoreDo you have a phobia?
Comments (48)Ok, dear people. I totally understand phobias, having suffered for all of my younger years with arachnophobia and acrophobia. Thanks to my mother. Phobias are IRRATIONAL fears that can become debilitating, as some of you have expressed. My acrophobia had risen to a serious level while I was at college, making it stressful for me to walk up all of the stairs required to navigate some of those big, old buildings on campus. And the little house I was renting didn't have railings on the stairs to the basement! Believe me, I felt like a wreck most of the time because of this stupid fear. So I visited the student health department at the university to see if there might not be someone on staff that could help me. Lo and behold, one of the of the psychologists specialized in different techniques to treat people like me. He taught me self-hypnosis methods and visualization, which I still use today. He also practiced some de-sensitization techniques on me which were very interesting. In the beginning, I couldn't even close my eyes and PICTURE me walking over a narrow pathway without railings. I mean, just sitting there in his office, I would begin to panic. In about 6 visits, I felt reborn. Reborn. And much of the work was done on my own, by practicing some simple exercises. With what I learned with the de-sensitization methods, I was able to overcome on my own (for the most part) my terrible arachnophobia....and a good thing, since I soon moved to semi-tropical SC, where the spiders seemed to come only in XX and XXX sizes, lol. So, what I'm saying is: you don't need to let your life be encumbered by an irrational fear. They can be 'cured' in an incredibly short time....See MoreJust found out there is a Rapist Down the street
Comments (32)Consentual sex - didn't anyone tell the boy the law? Or did the parents just hand him some condoms and tell him to have safe sex as he was going out the door? I understand that some boys may be on the registry for stupidity and they will live that mistake for the rest of their lives. But let's not forget that men can always stop - stop if someone says no, stop if they think the girl is underage, stop if they are aware that the parents at at any time could charge them, stop if they have any concerns whatsoever that this isn't right. Stop. That's within their control, not the woman's. Do I feel sorry for these young men who couldn't control their hormones? Yes. Would I throw out the registry of animals because their stupidity put them in the same boat? No. Was it a case where a gal was putting out to a group of men and decided man number 6 was a rapist and the first 5 were not? I have a major problem with this comment. Is this the reason you would have done away with a registry? Because some woman put out for 5 men and on the 6th she said no? This is the very reason women don't charge men with rape. Because some snail of a defense attorney is going to put the victim on trial claim because she put out for 5 men, the 6th was no different. Shame on you Wildchild. Shame. When a woman says no, she means no. And no rational man is beyond their ability to stop. Only the animals keep on going. As for consentual sex with a minor, whatever your personal experiences are, a boy, no a man, should know and understand the consequences. I don't care if some woman sings him The Song of Sirens. If he puts his hormones in front of the law, he takes his chances. Even if the girl consented. Often times they consent because it's the captain of the football team and they want to be accepted. That doesn't make the man any less responsible. It takes more than a "he said, she said" to get put on that registry. It takes a trial, a hearing, a judge and maybe even a jury to hear all the evidence, including dragging the so-called "victim" through every relationship and every photograph and every friend she's ever had. So no, I don't cry for those on the registry, although I do agree there are some on there who may not belong. But take a look at the registry and some of the people in your neighborhood on it, and tell me they are all just poor misunderstood souls caught in a web of a lying female....See Morecheck out these listing pictures
Comments (30)Yep, you did say most. I really have to lay off the Kilz. Too much priming will fry your brain. Just say no to primer... I think most realtors are slimy and deceptive because I've bought and sold 4 houses. They've either been stupid or incompetent, or both. Or slimy. Methinks thou doth protest too much. However, that may be the Kilz talking, too. Off to prime the kids' bathroom, wahoo. Home selling 2008-if it's not a gem, don't even bother...
