off-white trim: white or off-white ceiling

My living room has low light, is small, and has low ceilings. Yuck, I know, but it is what it is. I'm painting it a new, lighter color (light blue), but we're not going to change the off-white cornice moulding (I think that's what it's called), trim, and front door color because they match the rooms that are not being repainted. To increase the appearance of space, I'm considering painting the ceiling white, but will that look bad with the off-white moulding? Should I paint the ceiling white, the same color as the moulding, or a very slight tint of the blue (which would probably look white anyway, since the blue is quite light)? I'm attaching a photo to show the size of the cornice moulding for reference, although the new paint job hasn't happened yet. The newly-painted walls will be Etherial Mood by Kelly Moore (the top test swatch in the photo).

Comments (4)It sounds to me like you aren't going to be happy with any ancillary wall interruptions that don't match the trim color. Therefore, the 2 choices are you go with eveything white, or you find a color that in which you can get your switch plates, outlet plates, t-stat trim, vent grills, etc. and then match your trim color to that. Naturally, what will happen down the line is you'll install something new that's not available in that color. Comments (12)rdas, Have you thougt about lighting? In my kitchen the lighting effects the color of my paint. My cabinets are a shade or so warmer than the bright trim throughout the rest of my house. But, the lighting that comee in from the windows changes the color of the cabinets throughout the day. Slightly of course. And at night the glow from the undercab lighting and the accent lighting also has an effect. My paints appear so close they look like they match. Only I know because I ordered different paint colors. Can I see a difference up close? Not really and this may be because they are by the same paint manufacturer and truly just a shade appart. You will be in a different situation because my cabs are painted and yours are custom ordered. I can only imagine the stress you are under trying to match. I also have the factor of the The Tan Coat wall paint color draws the eye away from whites fighting with each other. Sorry there are pieces of trim missing in this pic. Still trying to finish the kitchen. I hope this can give you an idea that whatever you do choose will probably be closer than you realize. Comments (6)How bright is the white of the trim? Does the trim extend into the kitchen? Is it open plan? Or a separate room? If the last, don't worry about it. It doesn't matter unless it bugs you. I wanted to do all my moldings in the same white but couldn't find a good one, so I used the pure white-white (I think it was BM Superwhite) and added one part of the "Maya Brown" of my rear entry wall to twelve parts pure white. This worked so well that I did all of the white walls in 8:1 of the same, and the downstairs ceiling in 5:1.
