Help selecting paint colors for our tudor exterior
Comments (19)When we bought our house the previous owners had painted the timbers to match the original (water-stained, never painted) stucco. I wanted it to look more like a traditional Tudor so I took a shade from the darkest brick for the timbers and something close the mortar color (but a bit warmer) for the stucco. I love your stone! If I had your house I'd take a dark shade from the stone, and considering the roof color, use a brown for the timbers and a natural stucco color as in Pal's example. Remember the that the sun can fade or wash out the paint when you pick your colors... There are many Tudor style homes here (Kansas City area) and I see so many variations. A lot homes with stone do the timbers in a lighter tone than the stucco and they look great too, more French Country IMO. Your present colors don't suit the stone or the roof - but you have so much potential!!! Good luck!...See MoreNeed help with exterior colors for mock Tudor home with yellow brick.
Comments (4)are you open to repainting the brick or does it have to stay yellow? If that's the natural color, fine (I thought it was already painted). perhaps a good power washing would help brighten it up a bit. I love the leaded windows off to the right. don't ever change those! normally the stucco portion is light and dark contrasting color goes on the wood trim&shutters. if you could do the brick in a dark gray, you could do something like this (except I'd pick a darker trim color.)...See MoreHelp with Tudor style exterior color renovation
Comments (16)I have a different take on this house. I find the 2 tudor peaks odd. There is no other Tudor detail anywhere else on the front of the house and while the peaks are the same shape, they have different detailing. I would change this so that the peaks look exactly the same, maybe adding a window to the left side. I would replace the Tudor details with decorative siding and paint the same colour as the trim. As for painting the brick, I would start by painting all the trim a lighter colour (including the peaks) then see how it looks. This is a very pretty house and would look better in a light colour. But because it's a big decision, perhaps go in stages and leave the decision to paint the brick to the very last. Good luck!...See MoreHelp - Traditional or Modern Tudor Exterior? Pics of Elevations
Comments (20)Decorate for the house you actually have, not the fantasy house that you don’t have. Notice I didn’t say “Design”. Design for this was a year ago, and didn’t involve anything Tudor. Design is Form. The bones. Your Form is set, and the basic Form is not Tudor. It does have a lot of nice Modern simplicity going for it. Simplicity that would be best served by a single cladding material, however that might be achieved. And a redo of the copper roof to achieve a more modern and simple direction. It’s ornateness is a jarring element against the rather more severeness of the body. Severity in this case is a good style direction. Bringing on late in the game decoration that isn’t at all part of the design form will look even more unnatural and overblown. Like Mario Buatta set loose in Phillip Johnson’s Glass House. Dont do this.... To This.....See Moremojavemaria
