Blue or gray colors to go with sherwood green

Our kitchen and an adjacent hallway will be Benjamin Moore Sherwood Green. We had planned on painting the dining room the same, but think now it will be too much green. The kitchen and dining room are very open to each other, so we want a color in the dining room that will go nicely with the sherwood green. We would like a blue or a gray (Revere Pewter? Wedgewood gray?) The dining room faces west with a large sliding glass door, so it gets a lot of afternoon light. Trim is all white dove, floors are a red oak. The kitchen has warm white cabinets. Thank you for any help! Unfortunately we need to decide quickly since the painters have already started! (Picture is taken standing in the kitchen looking toward the dining room. You can see the sherwood green has already been painted on the hallway going up stairs)

Are you looking for a a color with about the same “darkness” as the Sherwood Green? If you want to go lighter, how much lighter? And also can you post a picture of the rest of the room? Right now it looks like there’s very little wall space.

I only have one other picture, it's a large room but doesn't actually have a lot of wall space, the west wall is mostly the glass door, and the east wall opens onto the kitchen/landing area. We'd prefer to go a little lighter than the sherwood green, though it doesn't have to be that much lighter. Thank you!

Adding black to white will give you gray. This is different than mixing colors trying to get black or gray. Ask your paint store guy. But if you feel too timid to try this then check out the rooms in the link below. When you click on the photo it will tell you the brand and name of the paint they used. Keep in mind that putting a tiny bit of color sample against the gold wall will affect the way you view it. Try putting the gray paint in the middle of a large white board leaving white edges and then placing the board in different spots around the room to see how you like it with different light hitting it. Come on guys! I know one of you must know the "rules" concerning the right white to go with a blue/green. LOL, if there was a rule, someone here would tell you! Unfortunately (or fortunately), there is no rule. It depends on what you like, and what else is in the room. Personally, I'm a big fan of pure white trim. I love the clean, crisp "snap" of ANY color against pure white. Part of this might be my own laziness. Once you get into the "off-whites", there is so much more to consider. Is it cool? Is it warm? Does it go with whatever else is in the room? What is the decorating style of the room? What is on the floor? What kind of bed do you have? What color are the linens? What color are the window treatments? Is there a rug? Artwork? What is the trim color in the adjacent rooms? All these things must be considered. Unless you're like me, in which case you reach for the "Ultra White" and have done with it, LOL...

Mtnrdredux.. Not sure if you saw post on your other thread.. I took a photo of our MB with Theresa's Green and pale powder. The tricky thing with Theresa's green was the undercoat recommended by FnB - they recommend the dark undercoat which was really dark. I even called their Toronto office and talked to the main paint guy here who convinced me to give it a try.. It really seems to add a dimension to how the color feels.. Kind of like a darker petticoat under a silk gown. Every day, I catch myself looking at the color because it is such a changeling. Our bedroom faces east and I also have a couple of skylights on the ceiling. The dark wood is panel on the wall. Theresa's green is on the wall to the right. The ceiling and the wall to the left are pale powder.

Miles Redd did a Farrow and Ball Hague Blue butler's pantry recently. I think it's in either Elle Decor or Traditional Home or Veranda this month. It may give you a color idea. Also, I have seen a kitchen done in Pitch Blue. GORGEOUS. Cannot recall one done with darker blue green lowers and paler blue uppers, but I bet I would love it. Okay, I just searched. I'm fairly certain it's Elle Decor--the one with Suzanne Rheinstein's New York apartment on the cover.

Lots of these low Chroma, near neutral greys from this region can be prone to shifting blue in certain imbalanced lighting. So would definitely encourage testing against different walls in your space to see how they are likely to behave for you. (2 x coats on board, so that you might move them around in and out if both light & shade)
