New Ceiling Fan - Nickel or Black?

The fan here is broken and needs to be replaced. We are looking at an updated style, likely just a fan as we have recessed lights in the space also. I know it is hard to see but our dining room globe chandelier is matte black and thinking we should get a fan with black downrod vs nickel as our furniture has iron legs. All our curtains/kitchen faucet/knobs etc are satin nickel. Thoughts?

Ceilings are 10ft high and room is 18 X 21.

I would get a fan with less brushed nickel like the ones below. Also, don't limit your choice to only fans without lights. Some of the best fans on the market today will have a built-in LED light that is very low profile. These fans have remote controls that give you the light at your finger tips, so it is very convenient and there is no reason not to take advantage of that.

Here are the fans I recommend:

Option #1: Minka Aire Clean. This is a super efficient DC motor fan that moves lots of air and runs dead quiet. This fan has a more tasteful amount of brushed nickel accents. The built-in LED light is almost unnoticeable.

Option #2: Custom Wrap from Fanimation. This is also a DC motor fan, but can be purchased with or without a light.

Option #3: Fanimation Custom Wrap in Black shown with an optional light.

Option #3: Hunter Cast Iron Original. This fan is black with dark wood blades to tie into your floor. This is a rugged heavy duty pull chain operated fan moves lots of air.

I just replaced old ceiling fan light fixtures with new ones. One takes 4 - 60 watt candelabra bulbs; the other, 5 - 40 watt candelabra bulbs. I used Bulbrite xenon bulbs (see link below - also other manufacturers) and now I have tons of light - much better than before with fewer bulbs. Their 60 watt xenon is rated for 960 lumens while a standard size 60 watt has about 850 lumens. By switching to the candelabra size, more bulbs fit in the space available for the light kit. So by replacing a 2 60-watt standard bulb fixture with a 4 60-watt candelabra bulb fixture, I went from 1700 lumens (850*2) to 3840 lumens (960*4). Fixture brands I found with more than 2 bulbs are Craftmade and Quorum International. I'm sure there are others, as well. Here is a link that might be useful: Bulbrite bulbs

Our ceiling fan (one of the few things we kept from the old kitchen) is an original-style Hunter fan with a black motor housing and medium-tone wood blades. Our appliances are stainless, sink is stainless, faucet and hardware are brushed nickel. But we do have some other black elements (soapstone counters and a steel counter and bookshelf uprights, as well as a couple of steel and glass pendants) that connect with the ceiling fan. I was worried about leaving the fan, since we have three other pendants in the space. But to me it just disappears; I have no idea how others react to it (and unfortunately I don't have any pictures that show it).

I agree with Busybee - I did not like ceiling fans but I am now a convert. I like the one that Cat-mom has. I prefer a ceiling fan with no light they look nice and the breeze it creates is wonderful. My home had a white ceiling fan when we bought it and when we remodeled we chose a wood blade fan with orb finish and It looks great. I detest white ceiling fans and unfortunately I have many in this house. I have been changing them out regularly. I changed out 5 during the flood redo. There are white in all 4 bedrooms, I most definitely will be changing the master bedroom one. Actually since we like that fan my husband bought spray paint and is going to take it apart and paint it. I would definitely go with a darker color either the black or a very dark oil rubbed bronze. The white always look dirty too.
