Another What Do I Wear question
Comments (23)Reminds me of the story of Tessie Oelrichs of Rosecliff Mansion in Newport. She wanted to have a white ball...all the flowers, food, everything in white. She wanted her guests to wear white including powdering their hair. And she realized the water was not white, so she contacted the head of the Navy in Newport and asked him to float his fleet with their white sails in the water for her ball. He told her to go pound sand. So instead she hired workers to build and float fake sailboats out in the water for her ball. Amazing. I remember too that the chandeliers had bowls in them which would get filled with perfume so the heat from the lights would cause the fragrance to waft gently down to the guests. If you can imagine at that time, her annual budget for the perfume alone was $65,000! But Rosecliff is a beautiful building, nonetheless...with its sweetheart staircase......See MoreQuestion about Gift Giving...
Comments (16)Thanks...I like all the reasonable replies here and it is interesting how everyone has a different way and reason for giving as they do. I am almost glad I don't have a whole lot of money or I would overdo it, I'm sure. Some of my favorite gifts given to me have nothing to do with how much was given or spent...that's a good thing to remember as I do the giving, too. nola_anne...See MoreWould you give a gift for sister's third marriage?
Comments (14)Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately my relationship with my sister was damaged, due to the nature of how she and her fiancé got together, and the turmoil it caused for her husband of 16 years and children. However, I still love her with all my heart, and she insisted I stay with them (in order to try and mend fences) when I had to visit their city, so I feel it would be a snub to not acknowledge her happiness about this marriage. I've decided to enclose a gift card in with the wedding card. Haha, joyful, I guess they would need a garden if I gave them a weeding card, like I posted!...See MoreAnother gift giving post.
Comments (1)Wait til after Christmas and ask if she would knit you a scarf (or something) if you supplied the yarn. She may not realize that you admire her work, or good quality yarn may be too expensive for her right now. By asking her to use her talent for you, maybe she'll get the idea that you would enjoy a knitted gift next year. If she agrees to use your yarn to knit something, offer to pay her for her work. Hopefully, she won't accept payment so thank her in some other way. ML...See Moredaisychain Zn3b
