I think it was last year when I couldn't sign in with my username and had to change it by adding "gwagain". I don't remember why the site decided not to recognize my usual username. Maybe I'll have to end up registering all over again.

I can post but not under my bookmarked "The Kitchen Table". I have to post under "Garden and Home Discussions" which is what it's calling itself now. At least on my computer. I can put up with it I guess, except that the photos are small. Yeah, I know you can click on them, but I was use to seeing them regular size without clicking to enlarge them. Oh well.

I have to try different browsers sometimes. Right now, Chrome is working for me to allow me to post pictures and like the original post. In the past, I've used Safari and Firefox, but they aren't working with all of the features of Houzz/GW right now.

I haven't signed out since I signed up in 2009.

What was the URL? Gardenweb or Houzz? (it sounds to me like you're in Houzz instead of Gardenweb)

I suspect Houzz techs wish everyone would just give up on Gardenweb and use Houzz so they wouldn't have to keep trying to make both sets of pages work together.

The last time I was signed out of Gardenweb and had trouble getting back in I wrote a script to backup my Mozilla profile. I scheduled the backup script to run regularly. I know that's not for everyone but I enjoy doing that kind of thing.

Right. I can't log in on the gardenweb url. I'm stuck on houzz. Thanks for trying to help. I'll keep working at it too. Disappointing after all these years, that's for sure.

It's been awhile but I think I tried clearing all cookies, both Houzz and Gardenweb.

Logging into Houzz first, then Gardenweb.

Logging out of Houzz, clearing Houzz cookies, then logging into Gardenweb.

Clearing both cookies and temporary files then logging in as above. (in both orders)

Going into my Firefox profile folder and searching for files with either Houzz or Gardenweb in the name and deleting them.

Copying a Firefox profile from a different computer that I was currently successfully signed into Gardenweb on to the computer I was trying to get logged into Gardenweb on. (That worked once, didn't work at a later time for some reason)

Restarted Firefox with all extensions disabled.

Moved my Firefox profile to the desktop so Firefox couldn't find it. (there's other ways of forcing it to use a new profile, that was just the most conveniently way for me)

Booted into Windows (I run Linux) and tried the new Edge with the Chromium engine. (Same error, just worded a bit differently)

One time, on Windows, I started Firefox a few days after unsuccessfully trying everything listed above, clicked sign in not really thinking I'd get in and like magic, it logged me in. No entering email or password.

The stuff I tried I tried hoping to develop a step by step guide, do this, then do that, etc. that a person could follow to get logged back in but I came up with nothing definitive. (I probably overlooked something)

My only advice... once this buggy site decides to play nice and let you back in... DO NOT LOG OUT!

If/when you get logged back into Gardenweb... please let me know how you did it. :-)

The only way I can even find this site is by googling "garden web kitchen table."

I don't ever seem to have this issue. I just go to:

Getting there is not the issue, logging in once there, is.

So far I've been able to get here on my laptop using my bookmark, the same one Annie posted. But I have the same bookmark on my iPad and when I try to log in it goes to Houzz and I'm unable to sign in.

Well yeah, because you haven’t cleared your cookies. That’s the whole point.

There hasn't been much mention of which devices and browsers people have. I think that's a factor, for sure. I believe there are different interfaces, depending on which platform you're using.

It's back! I'm back with the gardenweb.com Kitchen Table i.e. able to access the site with my original The Kitchen Table bookmark! Photos are back to normal size. Yay! Thanks to the forum Mods or Gods. Hopefully it stays this way. I'm a happy camper again. : )

Well schoolhouse I’m happy for you and annoyed for me.

Carol I’ve tried on my iphone, all my family’s iphones, iPads, Chromebooks, HP laptops, with safari, chrome, ie, whatever. I’ve tried from home internet, friends/family internet, cellular data, public internet. It’s ALL the same:

1) I can log into Houzz but Houzz doesn’t give me option for posting topics to CF or KT.

2) If I go to GW and try to sign in, I get too many redirects.

3) If I go to GW and without signing in start the process of opening a topic on either of those forums, I get really excited at my progress until the point of it asking me to log in. I put in my credentials and it asks me to log in. So I put in my credentials and it asks me to log in. Next I put in my credentials and lo and behold, it asks me to log in.

I used to be among the fortunate who believe that some poor saps have simply suddenly forgotten how to interweb after all these years. But now I know what they’re talking about.

If any long-time member whose devices just “know who they are” are confident in their ability to trouble-shoot this, I invite them to do the following:

1) log out

2) clear cookies

3) try to log into GW

4) if you’re in, thanks for trying but it doesn’t look like you have been able to replicate our problem.

5) if you experience our difficulty, please let us know when you figure out how to correct it.

I gave up on GW months ago however reading carol's comment I do wonder if it could partially be connected to the browser that you use. My laptop came with Edge but for some things including verification of my tax info at the bank I was only able to do it using Firefox. The person at the bank help desk was going to report it to IT because I was not the first person who had a similar problem.

^^^ I said “long-time member“ because that’s who I’ve seen complain about it. At one point I opened a new account and it worked. Unfortunately I deleted that account, determined to make this one work. As you can see, yesterday I opened yet another account and I have the same trouble.

I'm frustrated for you foodonastump but don't know how to help. One thing I did notice, and this may have been mentioned above somewhere, but whenever I leave a web site I most always pull down the "Clear Recent History" option. I saw, and I don't know if this was there all the time, but the box in front of "Cookies" was checked. Had it always been? I couldn't remember. I said what the heck and un-checked it. So today after visiting my usual sites and forums, I did the clear recent history (with the Cookies box still unchecked) each time as usual.

Did that have something to do with the KT bookmark taking me to gardenweb again? Not sure. Will I have a bunch of cookies on my computer now? Seems likely.

I do use Firefox.

It is all messed up. I. had the same experience. I had to sneak in through a back door. Personally, I think they are trying to get rid of us who just talk and dont support the advertisers. Maybe? Maybe not? We represent no profit, I think.

I hesitated clicking on my bookmark this morning, but got in only to find that the site is running very slow. I thought I was going to get hung up after checking out the "POV not working" thread and left. Came back to see if things are running better....somewhat.

I now keep a bookmark that Elmer had posted; I have to use that exact Houzz address or I cannot sign in. "Gardenweb" will let me look at posts, only. I have it written down on a piece of paper somewhere--I'll try to find it. Otherwise, write to Elmer.

It seems to me the old adage of reinventing the wheel is what we have to do to stay here. We have to keep reinventing Garden Web.

On a travel forum "lounge", a couple of times I got locked out. It's more or less a closed forum, no new members can access it. So I went to the actual travel talk side, did a search for any posts I had made and up came one of my posts in the lounge. I was able to click on the forum title at the top ( The Lounge") and I was back in. Bookmarked it right away.

I googled and found an old post of yours in gardenweb. See if you can still post on this thread. meatball

OR - click on where it says "Cooking" , the title of the forum. I know you're problem is you can't post but worth a try.

I'm curious after reading comments above, do some people log out and clear their cache every time they leave Gardenweb/Houzz - or every time they close their browser?

If so, why?

Schoolhouse - That link has a gardenweb URL. If I click it I can read it but I’m not signed in. While on a GW page:

1) if I click the account ”head” icon top right in order to log in, depending on which page I’m on it will either give me a ”too many redirects“ error or it will simply refresh the page.

2) if I click on “sign up to comment” in the bottom of an existing thread, and on the next page click the “sign in” link, I’m brought back to the thread without having an opportunity to type in my credentials.

3) if I replace gardenweb with houzz in the url then I’m either already signed in or able to sign in either way, and post. But I cannot start a new thread on KT or CF and perhaps others.

If you look at my profile I believe the last Cooking Forum thread I opened was on Nov 30. Up until that point I could flip back and forth between houzz and gardenweb without issue, generally staying on GW. I preferred some small differences there, and I can’t swear to it but I‘m pretty sure even back then I couldn’t open a thread on houzz.

Carol - I don’t clear cache on any schedule. There are a handful of things that’ll trigger me to clear it, but it could be weeks or months or many months in between.

I still think at least some of this may be due to server issues, not always the browser or the platform itself. Have you checked your speed? Do you have multiple users in your household? Some providers promise a certain speed, and then throttle traffic.

I just took four different speed tests, all in the 185-190 Mbps download range, 20Mbps upload. I think that should be more than good.

Some of us on Readers Paradise have had the same problem - I have 2 computers where I can login to RP and KT only through the Houzz site, where neither of these 2 grandfathered forums is listed/accessible. BUT if you use the URL www. houzz.com/discussions/tag=33 you'll get here. Once you're here, be sure to click the 'Follow" box on the upper right, so that once you do get logged into Houzz (vs Gardenweb), the forum will come up in the left column under "Your topics."

For some unknown reason I lost my bookmark to Houzz this morning. Not expecting anything but out of habit I typed in Gardenweb in the URL and low and behold Gardenweb came up and not Houzz. It even recognized me. I had given up about a month ago using it and had even deleted the bookmark.

For the past 3 or 4 days I couldn't post from my computer. It wouldn't let me log in. Very annoying. Finally let me in yesterday.

I went to discussions and seem to be able to post here. I still cannot get in to the KT to comment or make posts any other way.

I haven’t been able to get in since Glenda fell ill.

Not being at the KT is very distressing.
