I used a Rev-a-shelf for the flatware - originally planned on a 2 layer system but this works fine. In addition to the extra flatware trays, you'd need extra cutlery drawers. It's very unlikely you'd completely empty a cutlery tray before you need to replace it with the next tray of clean cutlery. You'd be forever shuffling cutlery from one tray to another to make room for the next tray coming out of the dishwasher. Before long, you wouldn't know in which drawer various pieces of cutlery were stashed. A totally impractical idea to my way of thinking. Don't get me wrong, though. I'm a big fan of the cutlery tray in my Miele dishwasher. I load it with all the forks in one area, the knives in another, spoons in another, etc., etc. I also segregate stainless from silver. Once the machine is ready to empty, it's a simple matter to gather up each type of utensil and put it away in its respective slot in the cutlery drawer.

javiwa - those are gorgeous, kudos to DH! DH made most of ours, fairly quickly and certainly cost effectively, if you are at all handy. Basically, it's a small piece of wood with a channel, screwed into the drawer, and then either plexiglass or thin wood slid into the channel. I still have to tackle our shallower drawers. I wonder if it is necessary to apply a strip both at top and bottom, or if one midway along would hold the divider. Excellent point. For us, yes, that was the case -- i.e., top and bottom were required for stability. Though, ours are 10" high drawers holding heavy casserole dishes, pots, pans, etc. Your needs aren't as heavy duty. It was cheaper for DH to purchase his dado set and create his own channels rather than spend the money on the dentil strips. And he'll be using the tools for other projects in the house, so it made sense for us. ^^^ Since it was easy enough for us to do so, we we ahead and installed top and bottom strips. A more cumbersome way to go, but you could purchase those thin strips of wood (found in the craft wood section of HD, I think) and cut them down to size. When you affix a row in the back of your drawer, just leave a gap between pieces: these gaps would serve as your channels. ETA: Poplar strips (1/4" thick) are what I'm thinking of. A 3" x 48" piece cost $3.23 a couple of years ago.
