None of those look good with 8’ ceilings. You’ve only got 24” to work with by the time you account for moldings. The proportions turn out squat. You need blocky and angular.

You could overlay it with cabinetry, I suppose, so long as you provided a means to remove portions of cabinetry to replace filter components.

Otherwise, some kind of commercial filter pack might exist that could be adapted to a residential hood insert. It would likely have to occupy ceiling space that the hood and duct connected to.

Okay I need to see the kitchen and IMO a kitchen that can handle that hood needs to be huge and at least 9’ ceilings . I need to know why you can’t use a proper hood so more info please.

When living with one this past spring for a brief period we found CO2 levels consistently above 1200-1400 ppm with any cooking and we hit 3000 ppm a couple of times. Some people may like them but their health is being harmed in the process.

We also measured NO3 one day and found it exceptionally high as well.

A good point, @opaone. Operated above a gas cooktop instead of induction, all the combustion products of the gas flames will be subjected to grease and odor filtering, but not CO2 (or NO3) filtering. Auxiliary filter packs might exist for this, perhaps based on techniques such as diesel submarines used to use. I don't know any details about them.

@athleticannie - the hoods you are picturing are exorbitantly expensive. If you can afford those, you should be able to afford running a duct to the outside. You've been mysterious about why you must have a recirculating hood. The level of elaborate hood you want is almost never used for a recirculating hood due to the cost of such a hood for what is essentially an ineffective exhaust.

The reason it is called a "recirculating" hood is that the effluent will be exhausted from your cooktop, run through a meager charcoal filter, and then circled back into your kitchen. Your smoke alarm will go off for anything smokey like grilling a steak, because a recirculating hood will be circulating the smoke back into the room, the alarm sensor will detect it and go off.

And, as others have said, the hoods you pictured are not suitable for 8' ceilings.

Start over with rational concepts of what recirculating hoods mean, or, see what can be done to run an 8" or 10" duct to the outside.

Ok, so long story short, our kitchen reno started LAST January. Between and crappy contractor who lies and COVID, the kitchen has not yet been completed. It exhausts me to even mention it since we have had to involve a lawyer.

Since I posted last night, I have found that the cost of moving the plumbing behind the FINISHED wall where the range hood needs to vent outside will not be at our cost. (We didn't want to put in any more $ since we have experienced COVID-related layoffs). Therefore, we CAN use a traditional vented range hood.

So now I need to focus on the type of 42" range hood that will work with 8' ceilings. Here are some photos of our space. This is the first room we have renovated on this floor so we don't really have much else that we need to work-around. What shapes of hoods will work here? I want warmth.

OP, nice looking kitchen! I like the tile going up to the ceiling.

From an aesthetic standpoint someone above mentioned sticking with a basic box and I'd agree with that. Trying to do too much with a low ceiling CAN look funny. I say can because some good architects/designers may be able to do something with more a swoop that works and looks good. Personally I think your first photo with a simple rake could work well.
