Do you take precautions when visiting nuseries? What do you do?
Comments (18)Hi Kim...Don't be all worried...This thread is not meant for that..:-) It is just to keep our friends well informed and to teach others what to look for and be aware of, and up to us to decide what to do with it.. We just deliver the news and the public choses what they want to do.. If I were you, I would be more worried of not knowing what could possibly cause harm to your plants than to find out too late, possible after throwing a plant away after it's demise the way many I know had to do in the past. Now you are armed with information that will help you stay ahead of the game in case it happens, avoid future problems, and if you should have any problems from not taking precautionary steps, how it could of started, and what to watch for when you do visit places that sell plants or when you receive them from any source.. I would just keep a close eye on them, and if you notice any strange happenings with your plants, check your cultural habits.Be informed about how to care for them as best as you can learning from these forums.. Learn as much as you can about those jades and what keeps them healthy and happy..Visit the Cactus and Succulents forum..There are jade threads galore.. I would defiantly have a magnifying glass available, and this thread at your disposal if your plants should ever encounter the problems associated with pest's spoken of here.. Josh...My sister loves the point of peat moss you brought up..She says thanks! I say thanks for your advice too.. Rhizzo..Good point..Thank you for that and your offerings!:-)))) Danny: Fantastic points and thank you for what you added to this thread..Your comments mean a lot ..Thank you much. Hi Pug....You are the best! I can only hope that many of us never have to deal with "citrus minor" and other hurtful bugs your way..Do you have enough good predators to combat these type of insects, or do you have to treat your plants? Thank you Nancy... Linda..We learn something new everyday, don't we? That is what I love about these forums and one should never be afraid to freely express what they feel and think about their plants and how they view, handle them..Better to be informed than to withhold from each other what could other wise hurt/ harm their plants..Good job, Bo: Happy growing to you too..Thank you for your input and your words..I hope your babies are doing good.. Comments (3)Here is my 2-cents worth. :-) You did not ask this part, but as far as him going back to sleep right after you feeding him in the morning, that may not be the best habit to encourage. Our DD used to do something similar in which she would want to take a nap about an hour to an hour and a half after getting up. It really threw off the whole day, similar to your dilema. What we did is instead of letting her go back to sleep right away in the morning, we tried to keep her up a little longer each morning until she got to the point where she was taking a mid morning nap instead. (If you did that, this would mean that your wife would not be able to sleep in. I don't know if that is an issue or not.) This then made her second nap earlier, like early to mid afternoon, so it did not interfere with dinner. After a couple months of that, we found that while she would still take the two naps, she really did not need both. So we kept her up and layed her down for her nap right after lunch. She then was at one big nap a day, right after lunch. She had no problem adjusting to it. She was about 11 months when we made the change to one nap a day. Your son may or may not be ready for that yet....See MoreDo you take naps?
Comments (23)The only time I nap is when I am sick.....if I fall asleep during the day it is usually because I am coming down with something. If I do take a nap, I have to get undressed, into pj's and crawl under the covers.....and sleep for at least 90 minutes. My mom used to take quick 20 minute naps....and be good to go. I don't fall asleep sitting in the recliner or reading during the day but have to have a book to read at bedtime to fall asleep....See MoreNaps: where do you, if you do?
Comments (30)Sue used to say that I could sleep any time and any place. When I worked in the bar of a hotel in Alberta 30 years ago, room and restaurant included, I'd be sitting at the stool at the counter in the restaurant, reading the Edmonton paper ... ... and fell off of the stool! It took me a while to forget that one! And I'd fish the leftover crusts out of the ice cream bucket, where they collected to feed the dog, and put them under the grill. The staff used to tell me to use the fresh mid-loaf slices, and I said that when we were kids we used to fight over the crusts - they weren't garbage to us, by any means. And they said that I should put them into the toaster. I said that the grill was going anyway, and it'd take extra power to heat the toaster so it seemed to me wise to use the grill, even though I needed to turn the bread over. What did I care - it wasn't me who paid the power bill. I said that wasting it wasn't a good idea, whether it was my wallet or someone else's. One day, the owner brought me a slice, burned black to a crisp, in a soup bowl ... that I'd placed ... and forgotten. It took me a while to live that one down, as well! I often have a rather short night, as I tend to stay up late. Now ... sometimes I find my nose hitting the kitchen table ... or the computer desk (often, late at night). Have fallen off of the chair, on ocasion. I used to have a recliner, but no longer. I can take a nap on top of the bed, which sometimes stretches to a couple of hours. When I was a youth, about 2 in the afternoon, we'd get sleepy when working the tractor, and going to sleep could cause some problems, so we'd climb off, lie down on the ground for 10 min. or so, and be good to go again. ole joyfuelled...See MoreTina Marie
