Here is the bathroom design that has been suggested to me by designer. I think she is on track except I am not wanting this big window in the bath. Because it is a second story bath above a pool cage I don’t want to invest in window remodel. I am already ripping out a garden whirlpool and building large shower in its place and putting another whirlpool where shower was.

This is an alternative design closer to my existing lay out.

Design the window away, or as a transom, or replace with safety glass in a fiberglass frame so that it can be waterproofed properly. What you can’t do is leave it there as is.

Waterproof the windows, add a privacy film if you feel it is an issue and go with the layout you want.

Thanks for your input. Current window is an Anderson window that opens outward. Two panes with cranks beneath. The window is on second floor above the pool cage. Is there a way to modify this without having to modify outside of house. It would be very difficult to do anything outside. The designer mentioned putting transom inside but leaving existing window inside as a compromise. We don’t want to do this bc would potentially reduce value even though window can’t be visualized from street.

What about make the closet(?) the shower? Or move the toilet by the big window and put the shower next to the closet?
I like the tub in the new location.

I know that moving toilets on second floor is very expensive. There are two watering closet or toilets. No closet closet.

It depends which way the floor joists run and where the plumbing stack is. Moving the toilet might not be that bad. So there’s two toilets and you’re keeping both?

There are his and her watering closets and one with a bidet as well and I actually really like that feature and would not change.

Whatever it takes, move the shower. You do not want a window in a shower area. If you ignore this advice, you will be posting back in this forum in a year or two for advice on how to deal with the leaks and rot that are occurring because you have a large window in your shower.

Thanks for your advice kudzu. Designer keeps assuring me that it’s not a big issue. I have talked to one contractor who says he can waterproof. But I have had small windows in multiple showers before and even with waterproofing I believe they all develop problems over time and I am even more concerned with this shower bc it is quite large.

It’s a nice size shower. I would simply move the adjacent toilet room to that location and slide the shower over. And I would probably opt for access to that toilet room using a pocket door.

I was just at tile store. Like my contractor, prosource rep was stating that if you seal window buy putting marble window sill and putting a certain type of board on the wall it should be fine. I am skeptical.

I've had a window in my shower for 10 years. Not one issue. There is a marble surround the whole window as well. However, my window is much smaller and higher up. I wouldn't want that large a window in my shower where I could be seen.

I agree the window is way too big. I submitted a second design. Would anyone go with the second design rather then dealing with this big window. Again for me the location of window makes it hard to change
