Window Treatment dilemma! How would you dress this window?

Hi! Just finished renovating our older home and need to start dressing all the windows. There are a few areas where I can’t figure out which type of treatment would look right.
My formal living room is an example. The window casing goes almost right up against the built in bookcases that flank my fireplace. What type of window treatment would you recommend for this type of area? I’m thinking a curtain rod would look weird since I can’t have it properly extend the right amount of distance past the casing. Or should I do one? What would you do? Roman shades? I need inspiration ideas 🥴 Anyone else face a similar situation in your home? How did you work around it? Thanks in advance!

IMO roman shades are a perect answer to this dilemma . Depending on your style there are different styles of roman shades and then choose a fabric that works with your style, I lkke silk in a more formal type DR and linen in a more casual one.

Thanks so much for your reply! I’m dying to dress these windows in some beautiful silk! I’m eyeing some Colefax and a Fowler samples as we speak. Was looking forward to making beautiful long curtain panels to hang on rods but now I think my vision has to change. What style Roman shade do you like best?

Mojotay, since you are looking to add color to the room I would do stationary drapes on either side of the windows leaving the main window exposed. I would mount the drapes as close to the ceiling as possible and probably would do tab tops. Which you then could use finials instead of rods to hang the drapes. What are your ideas?

Wow...are you sure a question like that doesn't require a site visit? Seriously, if you don't need coverings for practical reasons, don't bother as the room is beautiful. if those are single glazing, you might wish to have roller blinds fitted against the window and hidden by trim work painted to match the window trim. You would lose a few inches at the top but a talented trim carpenter could make them look almost like a part of the window trim. I could see custom made radiator covers that would mimic the wainscoting would turn those obstructions into a desirable feature. For the top use the same profile and dimensions, at the same height, as the window sills. Columns on the ends and probably three panels of approximately same proportions as the existing ones across the front of the radiators would work well. Do some research on radiator cover design as you need to have good air flow coming in from the bottom and exiting at the top and a properly designed cover will actually help, not hinder heat distribution from the radiators. Despite the term, more heat comes from convection than radiation and channeled air flow will increase the heat transferred to the room. You could remodel that hearth and do away with the part near the window :) I like the idea of hanging the panel on the left side of the window and just living with the weird drape over the mantel when they are closed. But I think I would put up a ceiling height valence and do wood blinds. You can change the fabric of the valence as you wish to change the look and the wood blinds are gorgeous and give a room a nice feeling.if you are worried about the height of the blinds then do the top up/down honeycomb ones in a similar color to the walls to make them visually smaller. The window will still be the star of the show and the valence will be the supporting cast that draws the eye.

How would you dress these windows & sliding glass door?

Hey There: My suggestion is a panel sliding window covering. It should cover the full door including the windows and open in the middle. This way getting in and out of the door is a breeze and you tight the door/window system together. I would do 6 panels in total and a staggering track - this way you can almost clear the complete window when you fully open the blinds - you can also do 8 panels. The panels are opening with a simple push and the staggered track does install as wall mount with about 2 inches protrusion. www.PleatedBlindsStore.com

Dear Danielle: Bottom-up Top-down shades will perfectly work for these windows. The install inside mount, are minimalistic in design and combine form and function. You can keep the bottom of the shades closed while enjoying natural light from the top.

Yes, Roman shades would look very nice, love them ... another idea is cafe curtains or blinds, especially if you like classic, vintage styles.

Roman shades would look great on your windows. Here’s a few ideas: Sea grass shades are more casual and let plenty of natural light in. I also love these beautiful banded shades, which can be matched to any color scheme. Many options, it depends what kind of look you prefer.

Roman blinds are both modern and classic. Etsy has lots of options color and style wise and with being custom, if not alread lined, you may be able to request - highly suggest to protect fabric, especially for silk or linen.
