Paint Color for Walls to go with Honey Oak Trim
We just moved into a house with Honey Oak Trim (very warm orangey-yellow). We’ve decided to keep the trim as-is (instead of painting it white) because there is so much of it and it is incorporated into all the doors and windows. But we are struggling to find the right wall color for our great room. We think we have settled on staying in the white/off-white family to modernize the space and keep it neutral but are open to any ideas. The room gets natural light from all directions during different parts of the day and we are in the process of adding more can lights to the living area. The ceilings are 9.5 feet high and the wood floor is a dark but warmer brown (called Royal Oak). We have lots of artwork in varying styles and colors to put up after painting is done (the painting above the fireplace is the only thing up right now to hide damage from the previous owner's TV). The window valances are being taken down and all the light fixtures/fans are being replaced with more modern ones. As you can tell from the pictures, we have painted many different samples on the wall but have not found the right one. We would prefer either Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. Thanks for any input you can provide!

Comments (9)blue is perfect for oak. did you see all the colors I posted in my other comment? I put a few blues in there. this blue would look really nice w/the oak I also like the greens. Sage greens look great w/oak and will work w/your green frame. This is Silver Sage SW Svelte Sage Behr,,Quiet Moments bring home some other samples (if you use Behr, you can get the $2 samples. BM is at $7 each. )' these are some gray/greens and would look nice. I don't like the blue/grays w/the oak because those paints tend to run on the 'cool' side, whereas oak is warmer. Comments (3)I don't think it would be weird at all to paint the whole wall white (or any other colour) including the chair rail (that's the line of trim around the walls. The idea is that it protects the walls from being marred by a chair being pushed back from the table). Of you don't like the chair rail you could check under the one on the dividing wall; if the wall under it is nice you could probably take it right off with no problem. You might have some nail holes to fill but that's pretty easy. I really like white walls with oak trim. Another way to pick your paint is to match the lightest color from your stone then go way, way lighter. Just make sure it harmonizes with the trim. Avoid a stark white and go for something warmer.
