Kitchen Remodel - Help! Tile color advice

Hi,

We are remodeling our kitchen and I'm struggling with putting everything together. We have chosen Honey Spice maple cabinets from Kraftmaid (Knollwood raised panel door) and persa avorio granite. I am stuck on picking a tile that works. We would like to use wood-look porcelain tile because we have dogs and kids. The tile will go into the newly renovated kitchen as well as a sun room which is in the back of the house. Both rooms are connected and the sun room has red walls that I plan (or hope!) to keep. The kitchen area would not necessarily need to be red.

Please see the attached photos and let me know your thoughts! I have included numerous photos of the granite. You'll also see what I think are the final two contenders leaning up against the granite along with the chosen backsplash and stained wood sample. You'll also see wood planks on the floor in front of the granite. The ones closest to you are the ones pictured in my house with the wood and backsplash on top. There are also three addition tiles in a row. Those are some others I brought home but am unsure about. Finally there is a picture of the red room.

It's just my opinion, but the Knollwood Honey Spice is a way too orange selection for any kitchen in 2021. It will instantly date the kitchen's appearance and isn't any better than simply selecting Honey Oak that everyone wants to get out of their kitchens.

The orange cabinets will clash terribly with the maroon leaning red paint color. I love red paint but this color is so very heavy and overbearing and doesn't seem like the right color for a 'sunroom'.

I selected three alternate wood finishes that are more neutral in tone that might work better with the flooring choices you have selected.

I don't think you want to consider a white tile backsplash for granite selection. that has so very much gold in the background. Below you will see all the colors found in the granite.

Agree with Beverly, needs some tweaking. Very complicated color matters here. I would really suggest an on-site designer. Too difficult to call online :)

Lgm2005, You can do this. You are feeling overwhelmed but no worries you can do this. Do you have a sample of your granite? That can be helpful when you go visit tile stores. Bring a good camera and even a flash light. Take pictures and post them back here and many on GW will give some ideas to help. I want to add that you do not have to be matchy match, sometimes a cool with a warm color can work. Have you thought about a slate color tile? Blue gray? Or even greige brown? For now here are a few ideas... Floor Tile Ceramic from Lowes Santa C a little cooler Santa C Floor tile Travertine floor travertine floor Slate Floor Notice the images below look nice with warm cabinets and counters but the floor is a cool gray Paint colors? What is your favorite color? Almost Anything could work in your space with your Santa C and cabs Baked Scone Behr Stony Ground FB (this is a great color that blends with the space) French Manicure BM Silver Blonde Pratt and Lambert how about a blue Argent Blue BM

If you really, REALLY like the Mediterranean/Spanish theme you mention....which I would personally analyzeand scrutinize your elements in those terms...are you seeking warmth/intensity/style/wrought iron mixed in/sunshine flowing.....what is it exactly... you can have warmth without the deep coloration....is it the metallic touches? sun?-then unveil your windows from the heavy curtains and maybe ADD windows/skylite........anyway, for your stated preference, I would beam or texturize the ceiling-the white looks wrong..probably address the white door looming there in the background too.....and I would add another strong color like cobalt blue somewhere ...the wall paint doesn't bother me .....some find it needing redone....the space is large enough....go with texture and another color....maybe tile in the blue shade or texturize or cover with rustic wood , the island vertical surfaces-is that just wallboard? Is the new hood snazzy enough to get a theme going for color, and edit elsewhere in this space-clear off some of the wall things/take down the curtains/remove the different ceiling lite fixturess/fan, etc.....

So I dropped my initial backsplash choice since it was too stark white. Thanks everyone who gave advice on that and specifically about waiting to do backsplash last. I'm picking my cabinet colors first and not restricting my choices just for the tile. I've looked at a ton of color samples and have narrowed it down to 3. I can't decide what I like most or what color works the best with my countertops. FYI, Teltos White Pearl is very similar to Caesarstone Frosty Carrina. I know that is a popular countertop choice, so that might help with any advice you may have for me since it seems like not as many people have used Teltos vs Caesarstone. All options have Kendall Charcoal as the lower cabinets. White Dove Is light and neutral. Just a bit of warmth and enough gray to work with the countertops. An obviously popular cabinet color choice. Dove Wing Similar warmth and gray undertone as White Dove, but darker. Will play off the marble-like veins in the quartz. Barely There This one has more of a brown/gray undertone whereas the other ones have a touch of yellow. I do like how there is less yellow and it appears more neutral (maybe leans more peach?). I cannot find a lot of info about this color online. Must not be a popular choice... I mean, come on Benjamin, this is one of the most boring color names. Any advice or do you have a favorite? Have any other color suggestions? Or are these colors so similar that I am just splitting hairs??

Good question...That space is actually not that big in real life. We'll likely put the 2 chairs with a table in between that we have in the sunroom now. We may end up with a moveable island in the "butler's pantry" -- agree, it's more of an extended kitchen space. But we can reuse the same cabinets so it will be low cost and extra storage since we'll have less in the main kitchen area. Moving the bathroom was deemed to be more than $10k, and creates a lot more complexity in the project. I am intrigued by that idea, but I think that will actually make the house feel smaller since that will create more of a closed off hallway from our utility room.

Wow thank you both for your suggestions! This is great! It's also funny because the Barley stain was my first choice. My husband wasn't too crazy about it so we settled on the Honey Spice, but I showed him your comments and I think he now agrees. I also liked the Bourbon when I saw the sample but that's only available in Cherry and we want maple. I'm a graphic designer so I'm familiar with working with colors and color schemes but these taupe-y neutrals are throwing me off! It's also throwing me off that I'm not able to see the granite on its side. Seeing it upright is throwing me off.

As for the backsplash, it's actually an off-white/cream color with a slight crackle finish. It looks like pure white in the photo but it's not. Do you suggest I go darker? Here is a link for the backsplash tiles. Would the gray version work??

The one pictured in my photos is biscuit. I could always look for another tile. I have another 6 weeks before demo starts.

As for floors, I'm leaning towards the plank on the left (the picture of three) that's up against the white trim OR the lightest gray/off-white version in the other photo.

So since I have you both here, I'm totally open to changing out that red. I supposed I could use those granite colors as paint color inspiration as well?? Also, our living room has hardwood floors which will eventually be replaced. Will having wood-look tiles next to real wood look weird? Would I be better off with regular looking tile in the kitchen?

I would suggest that you not select the granite or the backsplash until they begin to install your cabinets. The floor and the cabinets may lead you to a different granite. They can't cut the granite until all the cabinets have been placed anyway. We see people on this site that have selected countertops and backsplash tile that they regret every day looking for a solution to undo the mistakes. Not possible.
