Entryway ideas please!
I need some help with what to do with my entryway. I wanted to do a console table and mirror on one side and then a bench maybe with art work on the other Side.
The issue I have is on the side where the door opens it’s only 42” for a table & there is also the alarm system so a mirror would be placed to high, the opposite side is 48”.
I suppose my question is will it look silly having a console table the opposite side as to where the door opens? Any idea welcome!
Also have very annoying air vents too so the sizing either side is reflecting those.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI don't know why builders, men, insist on placing thermostats, alarms, outlets, smack dab in the middle of a wall. they could have gone 2 feet to the left and been fine.
what you could do is 'hide it in plain sight' and decorate around it.
or just do the other side
I don't see that cool gray working against your warm red wood door. pick a warmer wood tone. Also too, the style is a bit modern looking for that door. I'd do something like the last picturebring in a larger rug

Comments (14)If you want more specific feedback on a direction to go in, get rid of the two shrubs that block the view. (If they're useful, maybe you can transplant them somewhere.) Then completely rephotograph the scene, taking a panorama of slightly overlapping pictures so we can see the whole view at once. One camera location should be the same as your first picture of the thread. A second camera position would be between the large shrubs that were removed. Each camera position would be several overlapping pictures that show from lot line to lot line (where the neighboring houses show as part of the background.) The walk itself helps to emphasize the entrance. Flanking it with plantings usually doesn't, especially if the plantings have any height. Comments (12)I agree that in order for the house to look welcoming, the way to the front door must appear visible. There needs to be a spacious landing the full width of the porch. The walk needs to be least 4' wide, and 5' is OK. Walks can be widened and decorated at the same time by adding a border of brick (an 8" strip) running along each side. (If the walk is too close to the home, I would not add a strip of brick on the side that makes it even closer.) If there is too much to be changed, it might be better to demolish the old walk and create a new one. I would not run a second walk straight out unless there is NEED for it. As far as making the scene look cozy, there needs to be no spaces that should be filled with plants, left empty. The obvious one is along the wall with two windows. There should be some shrubs growing below the windows. The next place is below the purple-leaved tree. A circular bed of groundcover would enhance the scene. If we had a wider view, we might see something similar is needed at the right half of the yard. Achieving coziness is not helped by letting things become untidy. The lower branches on the trees are impeding the view of the house and the canopies need to be lifted and tidied up. I think the house would become very plain looking without the shutters. They're an important trim piece. With modern windows, we all know no one actually uses shutters for storms, and that they're just decorative.
