You really don’t need all that beautiful flooring covered..only front door area...leave hallway along stairway empty and add your decor...maybe a cute slender bench with a basket for umbrellas...I don’t have one hallway rug...only placed a rug at each door entrance and have a huge dog running around..have wood floors throughout my home first home 23 years floors still looked like new..and this home 5 years..no wear at all...why Do you feel the need to cover the beautiful wood floor?

If you are wanting something that is less of an investment piece, look at this one. DD has this rug in a larger size in her hearth room. Although she has a couple of beautiful persian rugs in the house, she wanted something that would not be damaged by small children being small children (art projects, clandestine food and drink, etc). It has taken a load of abuse from 3 small children and one large dog and it still looks nice. It is thin and needs a good pad under it to help it look decent. The fringe is short enough that the roomba doesn’t get stuck on it.

You all are so kind!! Thank you all for the wonderful compliments on our room and our collection of folk art by some of our favorite artists. Made our day!!! Somehow I had the feeling that you all were going to say exactly what I was already thinking and ordered rugs (red/multi and the sisal) on Monday knowing we could return them if we hated them, and they arrived today. My friends, what a HUGE difference! I knew it once they were laid out. The entry feels like its own area but still coordinates with the living room while covering the blank space correctly. Amazing. I may put up our primary bedroom (oversized) to see what you all suggest for the direction we are going. We can't thank you all enough!!

Velcro pups indeed! They keep their food source in full view at all times I bet. My pup does that too & I’m sure that’s the reason… Now having time to think on your question & reading the replies I changed my mind. I agree about going full length to stairs & I think with 12’ + that’s very doable. That full length will create a long & clean look - nothing choppy. So, although shorter lengths certainly work, the full length is best & that’s my vote!
