We need help choosing exterior colors for our house in Seattle

We are trying to find the right color combination for our home in Seattle. The house is surrounded by trees and the front of the house is facing N. The roof is currently desert tan (reddish) color but it will be changed this spring, and we can choose a different color for the new roof like gray. We like the idea of keeping the brick unpainted, but we would not mind if we would have to paint the brick to incorporate it in the new color scheme. We like earthy colors and light colors too. Thoughts? Suggestions? Photos? Thanks you!

I agree with cat_ky that the vertical and horizontal siding need to be the same color. I like the vertical siding color other than it brings out the "pinkish/salmon" tones of the brick. There seems to be some dark taupe (gray/tan) tones in the brick so I would look at trying to pull those into the paint scheme and do the shingles is something like Weathered Wood.

Keep the windows the same color as they are now. If possible, change the wrought iron railings to stained wood (reinforcing the earthy theme). Also look at changing the outdoor lighting to something with a more craftsman vibe.

I would leave the brick, but, right now, it looks choppy because of the stripes of color. The top color and the inbetween color should be the same. When I view the picture of the back. I really like the top color, and would like to see the entire house (excluding the brick), that color. If you decide on a gray roof, it will go with that color, but, what you have also will go with it.

Take into consideration all of your existing fixed elements like cabinets, trim, etc. I’d steer you away from those grey floors regardless of the size of your house if you have any natural wood stained trim or cabinets.

The stone is not actual stone, it is likely a veneer. But, it is high quality with the look and feel of stone. Urban Puddy is very close to your inspiration photo. The trim would be done in Elephant Ear. Do you think those colors are simple enough? I am definitely looking for a more classic look.

I think you are right to be cautious about adding gray on your beige-rust-brownish house. Just doesn’t ”go.” Navy or green would work. The shutters you have now look like bandaids. Get new appropriately sized shutters. Your landscaping looks neat and well cared for, except the one red-brown shrub starting to get too tall.

Thank you for your advice. I agree with you in terms of painting the vertical and horizontal siding the same color and i was planing to change the ugly light. Also the brown on the vertical siding does go well with the existing roof and the brick, but the problem is none of us like the brown. That is the big dilemma on how to go another color route without the brown that is matching the roof and the brick. We would like t keep the home bright (not too bright):)t but also matching the evergreen situation outside.

I would paint the whole body of the house (except the brick) the color of the grout.

I agree with ashtonchic...the mortar color in the brick is an option, especially if you go with a gray roof.

Seattle's beautiful. We have family there and always enjoy going, but mostly in the summer to get away from our heat here in SoCal.

you already have the dark windows, so that's good. do a medium gray roof. that color will go w/everything.

Do you like dark?

if you did the dark siding and added some wood composite siding, it could look a bit more modern. I notice you have some cedar up under the roof eaves. that would be cool if you could do it elsewhere on the home.

similar home style with a darker green siding and the brick

lighter gray (btw, these all have the stairs like you have. check out some of the landscaping around them
wood doors, and all the siding running the same way.

Thank you all for all the advice! I see pic of some lovely homes and I really liked the idea of the composite wood to match the wood under the roof eaves, unfortunately we do not afford any substantial changes to the house. We only have a budget for the roof which is really old and needs changing and hope to find an esthetic solution with paint.

@Beth H. :I like the gray on the 5th house from the bottom (the one with the wood fence on the left and the gray garage doors), it looks a bit like our home. Do you have any info on paint color and the roof color( I can't see the roof from the picture). Thanks!
