Thanks all..Ellen it’s the candle for that hurricane glass. The funny thing about it is there’s a rather large hump at the bottom of the glass making it impossible to stand straight up. It just falls against the the side, not a little..a lot! Yep, it’s cheesy, tinny, razor sharp at the bottom and my most epic internet-purchase fail! I’m looking forward to posting a few more pics a later next week...how do you like your staged envelopes! They really put me in touch with my feminine side. Not that there’s anything wrong with that lol!!! But yea, I’m super quick to defer credit on that idea ;). In fact, all I did was the rug and the rug would’ve been drapes if it weren’t for pandtkendall..who I think hates it lmbo! As long as Kat likes it..I’m cool! That made my day! I would personally change the lighting, wall color & maybe floor before I would paint the cabinets. Painting the trim would really lighten things up.

Your Kitchen Designer should be advising you. Colors are not picked in a vacuum. They are part of the whole design. The kitchen is part of the home as a whole, and must integrate into the whole. It can’t pretend to be in a different house. Start with an color and texture inventory of your existing house.

If you're keeping the existing cabinets I'd paint them a warm white, which will highlight/contrast with your oak floors, and leave the trim stained. One of my clients recently had her oak cabinets painted Ben Moore's White Dove, and they look great! I have no problem with being able to see the wood grain, it gives the surface a more interesting texture. I would most emphatically not do an "espresso" finish, which is a very dark brown, and will date your kitchen to the early 2000s. If you're replacing everything, you could go with either a painted or stained wood. A great look is quarter-sawn or rift-cut white oak in a cerused or limed finish, which looks nothing like the honey oak of the 1980s. Natural wood cabinets are not in and of themselves "dated." The trick is HOW the whole room is done. The choice of finish, accessories, textures, etc., is what will determine whether the room looks "dated" and cookie-cutter or will stand the test of time. And if you love it when you finish it, you'll probably love it for a long time, no matter if others call it "dated." Look at the following photos, and tell me any of them look dated!
