How do you make crisp?
Comments (21)Cloudy Christine, I think you have a new Hallmark Greeting card in the making: "Get Well Soon: May your drugs last until the pain is gone." Annie, hope the knee is recovering as planned. Back to Crisps: I do like oatmeal. It's one of those recipes that I often make up with what I have on hand (granola, oatmeal or just flour). But one thing that an Ann_T recipe had was the addition of lemon to blueberry crisp... I get so many compliments when I do that. It just seems to brighten up the berry flavors a bit. Oh, and I agree that it is the perfect breakfast item. (DS really loves me for that :) ) Ann...See MoreRECIPE: Apples!
Comments (19)This thread prompted me to make something apple with apple basket DH got at the hospital. I made an apple crisp/betty/cobbler. Anyway, it turned out very good. I threw some apple brandy in while cooking the apples. I made the crust with the dry cake mix and butter. Sherry/Sheshebop said not to use canned pie filling so this was my opportunity to ditch that habit. It was really easy to make from scratch. The most challenging thing was using the apple corer and getting the core out of the "gadget"....See MoreAnyone have a good warm apple crisp recipe?
Comments (6)From the Fannie Farmer Cookbook, this is my favorite: 5 cups peeled and sliced apples 3/4 cup flour 1 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 pound butter, in small pieces Preheat oven to 350. Butter a 1 1/2 qt. baking dish, spread the apples in it, and sprinkle 1/3 cup water on top. Combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a lowl, and rub in the butter with your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs. Spread evenly over the apples. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the crust is browned....See MoreDutch apple or crisp topping
Comments (7)Absolutely, FOAS. Fingers are much better for streusel. IC, I'm saving your proportions for crumble. That makes more sense than most of the recipes I've read. A cup of packed brown sugar is about 7.5 oz. by the weight conversion charts, and 3/4 cup of butter is 6 oz. The weight of flour varies more by the mill, the person doing the measuring and the environment it's done in, but 1.75 c. King Arthur AP flour weighs 7.44 oz. The oats would be 1.75 oz, for a total grain weight of around 9.19 oz. So by IC's proportions there isn't enough grain, and is a little too much sugar....See More- 5 years ago
