outdoor pizza oven?
Comments (1)Hi! There are several books available on the subject titled: Building a Wood-Fired Oven for Bread and Pizza The Bread Builders: Hearth Loaves and Masonry Ovens Build Your Own Earth Oven : A Low-Cost, Wood-Fired Mud Oven But you can probably find everything you need on this website: http://traditionaloven.com/ Check out the community forums & also the really neat photo's of homemade ovens! They range from artistic to down right simple. I haven't gotten around to this project yet but I really do plan on it. Right now I'm just using my charcoal grill...still has a wonderful YUM factor!! It appears the hardest thing to obtain is the firebricks. If you can find a good source for the bricks, the rest of the materials are very obtainable! Best of luck! KAT...See MoreOutdoor pizza oven?
Comments (9)Hello everyone! I'm back! Francy, thanks for posting the link. Patti, do you have any questions about it? It is in a covered area attached to the house. FYI, it is on a concrete foundation that also goes below the frost line. There were a few tense moments because my builder sized it for a smaller oven, not realizing that you need to have room inside the oven for a fire as well as the pizza! I have the 36" oven by Superior Clay, and can't imagine using one that is any smaller. Here is a link to their website: http://www.superiorclay.com/oven/oven36.html#cook Another site with really good info is Mugnaini. Comments (2)lululemon, the oven is 20" wide, the inside of the cabinet is 22" wide. I think it's the pizza oven part that is causing this requirement for the clearance. I'm wondering if we don't use the pizza oven part for actually baking, but maybe just for reheating pizza, if that would be ok. I mean, if I take it back and get another microwave, we wouldn't be able to bake a pizza in that, right? So this way this oven sits in there filling up the space, looking good. With the sale price we got, I don't think I could get another microwave to fill up that spot so nicely. If they fit in the 21" width, then they are too short, and that looks really weird....See MorePortable outdoor pizza oven
Comments (38)We have the Ooni oven in Cathedral City, and so we only use it when we are there. When we are there (usually for about four weeks at a time), we make pizza twice a week. I do all the prep work and my brother cooks it. We are using the round pizza turning peel, but we also discovered that we need spinners as well, but they are inexpensive. We use the turning peel for the first turn and then use the spinners, as in this video that we made: (You can notice our Texas accents in this video.) The spinners will not work for the first spin, as the pizza will not be firm enough and would distort if you use the spinners too soon. The turning peel is too slow to use after the first turn because the pizza cooks in seconds, and the heat is concentrated in one back corner - thus the need for constant spinning. Here's a photo of a cover I made for the oven using Sunbrella fabric: We get sandstorms in Cathedral City, and so this helps protect the oven. I will add that I tend to make 12" to 13" diameter pizzas and make a batch of dough for two pizzas ad a time. Between the two of us, we eat 1-1/2 pizzas and so have half of a pizza left over, which is fine, and we usually eat that the next morning....See MoreRevolutionary Gardens
