Has anyone used Home Depot's Greecian white mini hex tile?

I am struggling with last minute tile uncertainty. Has anyone used Home Depot's Greecian white mini hex tile? What grout did you use and do you have photos to show?

Also my shipment contained what looked like 2 different tones of tile. One more white (tinged with tan) the other white and grey. Neither is what I saw on the HD website. Curious to know what your experiences are. Thank you! This tile thing has thrown us off schedule for our move in date so replies much welcomed!

Colour variation from a Big Box store marble tile is to be expected. Sorry but they take returns = different batches. Colours run 'true' from one area of the mine. If you have two different marble blocks (5 tonnes of marble being blown off the side of a mountain at a time) from two different areas/levels of the mine, you can and will have different colours.

Most of the marble from HD is from China. That can mean multiple mines many miles apart. Your purchase did NOT have a skilled professional picking the right amount of tile from the same batch. This is 'Tony' pulling boxes out of a warehouse for minimum wage.

Because HD takes returns...go ahead and take them back.

Feel free to work with a stone/tile company or go to a kitchen/bath company to help you pick out the right AMOUNT of product from their stock.

What is the marble being used for? Do you know most marbles need to be sealed? Up to 3 times at time of install?

Thanks SJ - this is helpful. I am new to all of this and trying to complete the project with a toddler and a short turn around time (it needs to be completed before the move) so am pretty overwhelmed. I also didn't know about the sealing requirements. I will find a way to take it back. Would you happen to have any pictures of what a white hex tile with subtle beige undertones would look like with a grey grout? I like the idea of dark grout for durability (and to tie in with darker wall paint) but am unsure of how it would look?

No difference. The U.S. Ceramics might be a hair thinner, but once it's up there's no difference, in either appearance OR quality.

We used quite a bit of the grecian marble (incorrectly spelled greecian on the Home Depot website if you are searching for it). We used 12x12s that we cut into 6x12 bricks, 3x6 that we used in one bath as a herringbone pattern and one bath installed in a subway pattern, 6x6, chair rail and the 1x1 hex on the floor. In one shower we installed the Homedepot river rock/pebble mesh mosaic on the floor. We installed the tile in Feb/March so its been up for almost a year and it looks great. There is, however, a great variation in color. It is not a pure white. Some tiles are almost all gray and some have quite a bit of brown in them. Our installer was fantastic at pulling the out and arranging them so that the colors are scattered. We like the color disparity and movement but that's personal preference. Just don't expect a pure white. We did find several boxes that contained noticably thinner tiles (mostly with the 3x6 tiles). We simply packed these back up (save the little boxes it comes in)and returned them to Home Depot. This is a stocked item at our HD so it was easy to get if we needed more and easy to return. The hex mosaic tile was an online only item and we had a HUGE problem getting it delivered. It was through a freight company and they kept promising it and it wouldn't arrive. This could be just an issue in our area (Cincinnati) but it held us up for about a week. (It arrived two weeks later than promised). If I can figure out how I will post pictures as I think the bathrooms turned out great! No extra maintenance. Just sealed it. We were cautioned by the installer about rust which is impossible to remove from marble (often things like shaving cream cans are still metal and can rust). I'm sure newhomeowner is finished with the project but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents for anyone considering the grecian marble.

My experience: The Builder Depot can work out great if you're willing to put in a lot of time and buy a lot of extra tile (knowing it's still a good price compared to other options). There WERE significant variations in size of the 3x6 venato tiles we got (1/8" difference), and there were a lot of tiles that were yellow/brownish or otherwise not great. However, I would do it again, with a plan to 1. measure every single tile, or at the very least measure several tiles from each box and stack them to make sure there are no big/small ones, and 2. lay out the tile from all of the boxes, pick out the ones you don't like, and MIX them so the installer isn't using tile from one box at a time. It will take many hours, but the end result is worth it.

We used Home Depot subway tiles for our guest bathroom in the house we sold last year. I loved the clean appearance of the white grout with the white tiles. I purposely chose a neutral palette as this was for resale. Also, this is sort of a weird angle shot, but you get the idea. We bought much of our reno supplies at HD (including travertine 3x6 & 6 x 6 tiles for the master bath). Overall, no complaints and our house sold in 12 days. Very pleased!

You mention that the tile colors you received looked different than what you saw on your computer monitor. True colors are often not represented well on line. It's better to see things in person and even better in the proper space where the light, paint, etc can affect what you see.

You can work with a marble-look alike tile. Porcelain is much easier to live with than marble.

If that toddler is a boy and the tile is for a bathroom floor, go with porcelain, not marble! You do not want to have to worry about any urine misses ruining your marble tile. Marble cannot be cleaned with most cleaners. You can't use household cleaners on it. There is a question right now on the front page of someone who has blue stains on marble because a cleaning person used Kaboom! on her shower.
