I don't, but I have very few, and mild, allergies. A rash to a common antibiotic is the worst. I think that I would ask about the facility's preparedness to deal with a severe reaction before I signed up there - having an MD or other qualified person to administer the correct meds, and resuscitation equipment (and someone trained in using) on site.

I really would like to know more about the common factors, if there are any, between the people who had the anaphylactic reactions. Has it only been people who have anaphylactic reactions to other allergens? Other drugs, or foods, or what?

Or are they people who have multiple chemical sensitivities?

Do you need to carry an EPI pen for your allergies? My son does, and we have talked about making sure he has a fresh pen (or two) when he finally gets a chance to get his vaccine. My daughter once had to be treated in the ER for a reaction to penicillin when she was quite young. She is a doctor and got her vaccine last week. They did have her stay to be observed for 30 minutes. No reaction.

Do you carry an epipen? The reports that I have seen is that the threat of an allergic reaction should only concern those who don’t leave their homes without their epipen.

My ears perked up with this as I do have a shellfish allergy.

From what I understand, the reactions was from people with severe allergies, and they were treated and fine. I will make sure to declare my allergies when I get the shot. I have not had any reactions to other vaccines (I got hep A and B vaccines last year, and had no issues)

I used to eat shellfish and then one time about 25 years ago, after eating shrimp I broke out in crazy hives. I had no idea what was going on, as the hives came out a day after and kept going.

I had never had this reaction before and actually thought maybe it was chicken pox. It was very uncomfortable, but no issues with breathing. I was tested later on and confirmed that I am allergic to shellfish. So of course, I avoid it . I have no problem if someone at the table is eating it as long as I don't.

I'm allergic to so many medications. I'm even in an NEJM article about my condition. I have had the vaccine, and I wasn't allergic to it. Just putting that out there. All we can do at this point is anecdotal.

ETA: I have had an anaphylaxis reaction to a sting, but not medications.

The potato plant is a nightshade and nightshades can rather often cause inflammation (don't ask how I know). So an allergic response doesn't seem that surprising.

Yes, I can't tolerate eating any of the nightshades anymore (boy, do I miss tomatoes--growing them and eating them), but being around raw potatoes is where it gets dangerous. Fortunately, it's easy to stay away from raw potatoes, so I've never carried an epipen.

Salonva, my daughter has the same reaction to shellfish. It's a shame as we love shrimp.

I talked to my allergists office today, I asked about an EpiPen. Mine had expired a few years ago. The doctor looked at my chart and said there was nothing in my allergies (cat, dog, dust, dust mites and penicillin) that would cause a reaction from the COVID-19. Although many years ago I had an anaphylactic reaction to penicillin.

He also said that all places that are giving the shots have to have EpiPens or the like to administer if needed.

I cannot take a flu shot-did once-was advised to never again as I darn near died.

Some flu vaccines are created using eggs, so people with egg allergies can have allergic reactions to some flu shots.

Covid vaccines are not created with eggs.

I saw a report last night with an allergist who explained that there have been about a dozen people have an allergic reaction to the vaccines so far. Considering there have been a few million vaccines given out now, your risk of having a reaction is extremely low. All these allergic reactions were easily treated.

Yes, @HamiltonGardener, that is what my understanding is. I don't make light of other's concerns, especially those who have had reactions to flu shot or more severe than mine.

I too have heard that places giving the vaccines will be equipped to deal with reactions ( epi-pens etc). My son in law got the Moderna one on Friday and he said after getting the shot, he had to stay there I think 30 minutes or so, I guess for observation. He had no reactions just sore arm.

From what I read most after effects are after the second shot. We haven't got there yet in the population.
