Hey all you modern farmhouse people! Did any of you use a stainless steel chimney hood in your modern farmhouse look? Please post pics!

I know a wood chimney hood would look best but just checking out my lower cost options. Thanks!!

I am not convinced that is the case. It depends. And it has nothing to do with whether the decor is "farmhouse" or not, as there are farmhouse kitchens with metal hoods and farmhouse kitchens with wood hoods.

I think a wood hood surround looks good if it is large, and how it is designed and proportioned is crucial to being able to carry it off. If it is just 30" wide I would only do stainless steel hood. Also, you have to be careful with a wood hood that you do not create a big wall of unrelieved cabinetry. It is nice to have a stainless steel hood as a relief to the eye of lots of cabinets. Also, it is a problem that sometimes wood hoods are not made deep enough front to back, but are made shallowly to save money. And finally, wood hood surrounds are not as easy to clean as stainless steel which are just a wipe to clean. Having said all that, I have seen some gorgeous wood hood surrounds, but it really must be part of an entire design, and the OP has said nothing about her kitchen design, kitchen size or any of her choices. If erring on the side of caution, I'd pick a stainless steel hood.

Thanks for asking about an update. You are all too kind. I am still in love with my kitchen but, alas, still not finished. I did find my over the island fixture- and I love it, but its arrival has made me less in love with my sconces. I am now in the process of trying out replacements. So far one is sitting in my sunroom, deemed to large, one is en route from Schoolhouse Electric. The vanity you chose is very handsome. The turned feet & slim molding give it a softer & more polished look than many of the strictly linear forms while staying casual & informal. Find closed cupboards & drawers easier to maintain than low shelving in baths for those less meticulous among us & the extra out-of-sight storage welcome for nondecorative grooming essentials & cleansers. The only thing I find disproportional compared to older furniture versions of this style is the skimpy size of the knobs, and prefer them with beefier substance more in scale to my eye. They come in a variety of materials & finishes. Stone tops are practical & classical. Consider marble the formica of the Victorian & Edwardian ages, commonly used with the arrival of indoor plumbing that spurred the trend of rooms devoted to personal hygiene. Great ideas, thank you!!! Norwood Architects - I like the idea of going all white and leaving the windows. You’re right we can always paint the trim if it feels like it needs more color. Thinkdesignlive - I’m intrigued by going darker and dramatic! Wow, hadn’t thought of that! Do you think it could look super modern? We would definitely paint the concrete walls below. Seeing this late, but I particularly like the allocation of wall-take-down assessment to a builder, I'm surprised you didn't go further and say designer instead of architect, haha. Very nice house and still good for a laugh. I'm always so sad when you see cute old houses for sale or on TV that have been reduced to white-washed, wallless shells of their former selves. Some of those people on house hunters and flipping wherever make such horrid suggests for how they could make a cute house theirs.

The 4th one down is my personal favorite(altho I wish they had put the cabinets to the ceiling there). Are these what you mean by modern farmhouse kitchens?
