Help with living room: couch under window?

Hi Houzz minds. We're stumped by our living room layout and need advice. There is a large double door, a window and a fireplace which limits the sofa placement.

Any ideas about how to configure this?

We currently have the sofa beside the door and across from the window but it's a tight fit. Barely any room for an end table and lamp. We debated removing the double doors but they've proven to be quite useful.

We think the sofa might look better under the window, especially as the fireplace and the window are both slightly off-centre. We want to put Billy bookcases down one wall, and get a couple of armchairs for opposite the couch.

I'll try and take better photos but I've attached a (rough) mock up of the room. [Ignore the mess... moving + Xmas + no real furniture yet! LOL!]

PS. Also debating floating shelves by the fireplace but the chimney stack is super narrow, only about 3 inches deep.

(Doors are 48" wide and 24" deep, window is 64" across, fireplace is 90" across and 15" deep / tile 25" deep.)

(The coffee table, armoire and brown IKEA chair are not staying... shhh, don't tell the cat.)

Move couch under window so we can see that option visually and send a new picture of whole room including fireplace, as well as measurements.

You can also use an on line room planner and include measurements, openings, etc and play around with placement. For instance two chairs opposite couch may not work.

On the side, I’d skip floating shelves on wall with fireplace so it doesn’t feel too busy, especially if you have bookcases. Art will have much more impact.

Post measurements of all the walls doors and windows for the best help. Also include measurements of your sofa (length and depth) if it's staying.

It looks like there would be a better furniture layout but more views of the room would be needed to see what that is. Once that's finalized, an area rug would help to visually warm up the space. It would be easiest to purchase a rug before the art. As far as wall art such as paintings, I would definitely look for pieces with lighter colored backgrounds.

Beverly, I like the look you created. However, I just got the wall painted. It is a high ceiling so I cannot repaint myself. It is sand color (Wise Owl by Kelly Moore). I am hoping for the grey sofa, sand walls and brown floors to be the neutral colors that will not stand out. Only the blush/pink accents to pop. I did the opposite in the other room with brown floor, grey walls and brown sofa. and teal color for pop. Will light grey sofa achieve this goal better than dark grey?

The space is on the small side, so I would try to get one in a color similar to the lighter color in the rug to the right of the sofa. Check Wayfair - lots of reasonably-priced rugs. A couple of other tweaks for your room: please lower your art above the sofa about 4-5 inches, and bring the two pieces on the sides closer to the center. Ditto the piece above the cabinet. It is hung much too high - move it down so that the bottom overlaps the taller candle.

Got it. We'll take some measurements and update the image. I found the room planning tool on ikea so thought I'd give that a try, too.

The couch would definitely look better on the opposite wall, as there seems to be more room on that side of the fireplace and the window wall is longer. Move the couch and post the picture here so we can see.

Next steps: ordered two hemnes bookcases, looking into two west elm chairs, an area rug. We are going to move the cabinet and replace it with something smaller (maybe like this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06Y1MT3V9) or possibly a wall-mounted honeycomb shelf).
