Is there enough room on the wall to move the book cases next to rather than behind the sofa? You could then create a cozy reading nook in that corner.

To me the couch is too small. Also why is it being covered by a blanket..? I’m also not sure the style is cohesive. What look are you going for? To me this is very metal, modern, cold tones. And the space is calling for a plush big sectional. A heavy wood table. Blues. Camels. Creams. Knits. Blankets.

Move the bookshelf over for sure. Or even out of the space. It is an entirely different style than the fireplace wall.

Pull the sectional back against the wall, get additional cozy seating and it will come together.

Also looking for additional seating, like a dueling couch or a pair of giant plush chairs, for example. I thought about twisting the couch 90 degrees and facing it off with the other seating.

Current couch isn't going anywhere since it's <1yr old. The blanket is there because my little fur dog loves to rub himself on it

The couch is great in my opinion. The bookcase is out of place.

Choose some comfy chairs, you could even have three or a sofa and one. I think it is a great space.

For TV I would get it wall mounted on an articulating arm so it is out of sight when not in use and pulled around for viewing when you want it.

lol! thank you! the opinions are super helpful, we are unloading the bookshelf and seeing how it looks moved over to hopefully create a reading nook.

I would move the bookcase into the dining area to create a library feeling where you can lay out books on the table. IMO, you need a new rug that is much bigger; a tribal style would look great! I would rethink the FP side of the room. Take the bushy stuff off the mantel, remove the middle shelf from one side and have it wired for the TV. Hang your art where the TV is now and move the desk left of the shuttered doors. Don't know what all is in the corner, but it needs a new home. The wine storage might go in the dining area or kitchen. You're in need of more lighting in the way of floor and table lamps. Not sure what to make of your coffee table!

I think that's a huge positive change. Get some art, more seating, some plants, put the books on the shelf and enjoy :)

removed the rug since it was causing weird cutting up of the room and its probably too "cool" for the space

and yes re: books. when we moved in together, the net books exploded lol trying to find housing for half to books to lighten up the load

Nothing was wrong with the rug. In such a long space you need ways to separate it all. The addition of seating and a new coffee table will help a ton plus art and plants etc.

Also pared down some stuff on the shelving. I don't own anything strictly decorative other than the vase thats hiding an outlet. So, open to suggestions. I work with numbers for my 9-5, 0 creativity, so all help is welcome!

Note: we will mount the TV on a swivel, and then we'll probably need a small table or something underneath to "anchor" it.

I just wanted to avoid having the TV be a focal point. If it were up to me, I wouldn't have TV... even during lockdowns.

The table was a diy project from 10 years ago! Free wine crates that i painted white and had a friend give me free cut glass. what do you have in mind?

I'm not sure how to add the Mediterranean given the crown molding in the room and built in style. I wanted to add a bit of warmth to the serenity.

The walls a re too white... we just moved in and had them painted. we tried a few whites on the wall but could honestly have painted bigger pieces to get the color right.

Our painter limited us to one color, dunn edwards only, and cost a fortune. I would have wanted white dove from Benjamin Moore.

You might remove a shelf and set the TV there to see how much it bothers you. In that corner it interferes with the door swing. Worth it to move connections and have it in the right place. If there is an outlet in the hall to the right, that electric might be tapped into to for installation of new connections in the shelf area. I like the new art over the fireplace, but please remove the bushy stuff from the vase, which is enough by itself. Dried, leftover plants have no appeal and the balance is ruined by them, IMO.
