countertop overhang or no ???
Comments (8)Here's what we did to our counter. Keep in mind we didn't have any cabinets along side this wall before our renovation. We installed cabinets alongside the halfwall and added the counter which overhangs 15" so about a total of a little more than 3 feet of counter space. Its amazing how much counter space there is and it will function so well with our adjoining DR. We are planning to use the other side with bar stools, I would suggest building a cabinet under the overhang for additional storage for your DR. Comments (5)Breeze: This is a Lavanto I installed a while back. The "ledge" in front of the faucet deck is matched by the one you can't see in the front. I installed it with a slight positive reveal on the sides because that is the most practical, most sanitary, least maintenance, and best looking method. Surprisingly, I had to recut the rabbet in the cutting board that came with the sink; it was too small. The sink it replaced:...See MoreCountertop overhanging into hallway
Comments (17)@ci_lantro- it's interesting to learn that this is the cabinet/kitchen designers fault but I agree, I'm just glad that something can be done about it. The question now is who will pay for it? There is a toe kick on all cabinets. The paper protecting the floors is just curling up over there. This project has been a nightmare. We relocated our washer and dryer out of our kitchen and knocked through a pantry and then converted our storage room into a new laundry area so we could extend our kitchen THAT direction. This is the side where the overhang is. The kitchen designer took liberties on the OTHER side where the peninsula is and moved it 9 inches into our eating area essentially making that space no longer usable with our 6 person table. So finding out she didn't know she was too close to wall edge near the hallway isn't shocking but it is upsetting. Here is where she moved our peninsula WAY too close to our large eating area....See MoreCounter overhang - what is the lease size for the overhang?
Comments (4)Our peninsula has a curved overhang which measures 4” at each end and 10” in the center of the arc. I understand that the recommendation for an overhang which allows for seating is at least 10-12”. My husband and I, of average height, are quite comfortable eating almost every meal at the peninsula. Perhaps, with a larger overhang, one could position the counter stools closer in, but we’re fine as it is. Can you take a board and position it 8” out from a countertop to simulate the overhang? Then test out sitting there. Good luck with your project....See Moreworthy
