Decorating Ideas for Chairs and Area rug, please!!
After years of figuring out what to do with this faux brick wall in the eat in area of our kitchen, I finally had it german schmeered (sp) and really like it. I have asked many question on this site re: this room. I also took down the window treatments and I think it totally opened up the room and makes it feel "clean." We used to have two yellowish chairs there and an area rug that flanked the fireplace,however I don't think they go. Once the christmas decorations are gone, I would like to put some types of chairs there but not sure of style or fabric and possibly area rug. Any Ideas on chairs and area rug for that space that would flank the fireplace .The paint is BM Herbal Escape. Thank you for your suggestions. The picture with the brick and yellow chairs is before we started our work.

Comments (7)The idea is to lighten the top half of the room both in color and in style. Use the slips on just the armless chairs. I think that will look fine since the armchairs are over to the side. Designers often use a different look at the ends of the table versus the sides. Do you have a lighter colored bed sheet? Why not try laying it down over the carpet. That will give you an idea of how a light colored carpet would work. Also, you will want to change some of the artwork. Comments (13)few ideas. it's a great spot, but I think this could look amazing w/a few changes. as for the rug, anything you like would work as long as it's large enough as mentioned. here is a simple sisal or a jute here's my idea. you have a great wall and great space for doing a built-it bench seating/storage along that wall. As you have it now, it's just not be used to it's full potential. Have a look at some ideas, and imagine a bench built in against the wall. you could to any type of design, cushion colors, even a settee. check out the lighting, art, colors notice the little corner cab. you could find something on craigslist and paint it yourself. this one is nice because of the built in cabinets. you wouldn't have to do both. you could do one in the corner. you could even do a little L shape in the corner like they have here....See Moredining "area" decor ideas
Comments (2)I would get 4 framed corresponding pieces of art and put 2 over each cabinet. I would put down a round area rug, as big as you can fit in that room. I'm not a fan of those mirrored cabinets, they're not providing enough contrast in the space and they're just getting lost and they look like they belong in a bedroom to me. I would use dark espresso colored pieces there instead. It's unfortunate that your drapery rod is not hung at the ceiling (see if you can fix that understanding it will impact the length of your drapery panels). Then I would switch out the lighting fixture to one that is wrought iron with some crystal bling in it so that it stands out more and gives more impact (the one you have now is getting lost and has no impact at all), and then get an ORB drapery rod to go with it. Then with your accessories you're going to need to show some creativity/style that I'm not seeing yet (everything in that space is very "safe") because your room is really dancing on the line of boring right now . You don't have anything that is really creating any visual interest, so you need to interject some flavor into that space or it's just going to sit "flat". And that does not necessarily mean color ..... monochromatic color palettes are great, but you run the risk of boring if you're not careful. 3 years agoI remember your room; such a nice space. The fireplace looks fabulous! What a difference that makes. I like the first two chairs everbetz posted. Swivel would be nice so you can turn to enjoy the view out the window and back to chat with someone in the kitchen. The brick is so busy, I'd not put too much pattern on chairs. What will you hang above the fireplace when Christmas decor is put away?
Room and Board has some nice looking swivel chairs and some great upholstery choices. Here's just one; the scale of this may be too small for the space, tho.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI think you need to be careful about the size of the chairs and I would look for something a bit more intense in color if you look your whole space is kind of the same and that tiny little bit og turquoise on the counter just pops so this what I mean by a more intense color then add that color into a center piece on the dining table .I think a flokati rug for some real texture without pattern would be nice and some high backed chairs to really draw you into the space

Chairs: mid sized comfy neutral slipcovered (that can be washed 😀) in a modern design and add color with cute lumbar cushions
Rug: natural fiber look for a natural, rustic, simple look so as not to compete with fireplace. Keep it calm.
- Could add an ottoman as a coffee table/foot rest

3 years agoSorry found chair on Pinterest and turns out blog is 6 years old. I searched Lee Industries for the chair, but must be discontinued. Here are others from their site. At least you may have a feel for what you want and can shop around. Leather is also a good choice with a dog

3 years agoThis looks comfy and the ebony legs will work with your bistro set. I would put them in the window and add a bench in front of the fireplace. Comes in 3 colors.
