It looks like an embassy!

Wow. That's incredible, and it does look like an embassy! It's interesting to me how it manages to look so very opulent, yet most of it is warm and beautiful and quite inviting. (Most of it. Not all of it. ;-))

I must be pretty jaded as I think it just looks like a grand estate. Those tend to look a bit like an embassy on their ground floors. Sometimes these houses have a ballroom as well (or a space that can be converted). The woodwork is swoonworthy in the detail, like the burl panels in the dressing room. And those dressing rooms! Is there another garage off site for the driver to bring round?

Gooster, they even have a separate area for the staff. I can't relate. lol I just can't imagine going through all the trouble decorating the bedrooms and other private rooms & then selling. You can tell youngish children live/lived there.

It's not really a kind of house to flip, KWIM?

For the most part, I find it an exquisite estate. That foyer! The staircase! The lady of the house's closet. Oh. My.

It’s too fancy/formal for me. And while I love wood trim there”s just too much of it. I guess I’m not into grandiose lol!! I do like the courtyard.

Same here, Tina. The only thing about the entry area and hallways that makes sense is the house was built for someone who often has large gatherings and area rugs in those area wouldn't be good for foot traffic. I'm curious who owns the house. Maybe a little project for later. ;)

Traditional? it hasn't been redecorated in about 20 years except the one tufted headboard. And just think--the owners probably have at least one other home in a warmer climate or perhaps ski country.

I like the wood paneled game room, the movie theatre, and, of course, the gym! Love these laundry rooms where there are twin W&D. Our W&D are in the kitchen, and I’m dreaming of that new LG stackable system, though I would lose some counter and/or cabinet space.

LOL, on an episode of House Hunters I saw this week, the man was enamored with a house that had a black toilet.

The coldness of the bottom floor would be an issue for me.

There are some larger homes here that are converted to professional offices like law and CPA offices,—not DH’s LOL. We normally have our women’s group holiday party at one of these offices. We’ve also been to arts fundraisers at some of the really large homes here.

I enjoyed the pictures, but truly loved that the last several were the actual floor plans. Made me scroll back through to better understand the space.

Very grand and tastefully done. I wouldn't want to live there but I wouldn't feel the need to change much if given the opportunity. :P The laundry room was dismal, imo, and I'm not a fan of media rooms with theatre seating. That's not how I want to watch a movie with family and friends.

@oakley -- I can't relate to it either, but I have seen a lot of similar real estate. One thing I noticed is that there is a staff living/break room but no quarters. It seems like no live-in staff bedroom(s) per the floor plan.

Apparently it was remodeled back in 1996.

The exterior of the house reminds me of a public library, like the Carnegie Library in the town where I grew up.

The black and gold stair railing reminds me of the post office in downtown Mexico City.

I noticed that the current owner wants to downsize - and I can't blame him. I wonder what the utility bills there are.
