Comments (34)I don't doubt you Clement, I just wonder if there are some plants amongst the ones shown here that are another species. 'Lukavec' is particular really does not look like Picea abies to me, but I digress, I am new still compared to the decades of knowledge present. A few more. Picea abies 'Stoner' 'Perry's Gold'. Heavy shade, still turns a nice white/gold color for 2-3 months in Spring. 'Dandylion'. Another plant with seasonal changes, this new introduction from Bob Fincham(of 'Pusch'x'Gold Drift' heritage) eventually cones, has nice gold color(with minimal burn) and has a spreading/weeping habit. 'Lanham's Beehive'. Unique texture, plump unusual needles and branchlets'. A keeper. 'Fritsche'. 'Konojecky' 'Frohburg'. A narrower weeper, branchlets are about half the size of most pendulous forms. 'Pumila'. 'Clanbrassiliana Stricta'. I am curious to the origin of this plant and whether it has anything to do with the first conifer cultivar, 'Clanbrassiliana'. 'Gold Dust'. Fairly unique coloring. 'Suncrest' 'Tompa' -Will...See MoreSpring flushers & More
Comments (22)Cher - I'm in Ohio... Hopefully they give me another season or two before they update so I can have all the mulch in place and see what the design actually looks like. If it updated tomorrow, I wouldn't see anything but my lawn. Ken - I was just wondering, that's all. I space the normal 6 x 3 spruce or pine so it can get to be at least 10' wide without touching the plant next to it. If they can get a lot smaller or larger, the size is adjusted. Smaller things are planted between to fill the space before the bed gets filled with mulch. It sucks that I have to space them so far apart, but it'll be easier than trying to move them later or cutting them down. That was me who had the family issue. They haven't been over here since I got my massive spring order and everything planted lol... only time will tell how it will work out for me. I think in that thread I decided to do one bed at a time which is what I'm doing. This bed (the one with 'Taylor's Sunburst') should be completed in about a week or so. Hopefully after they see this, they will start seeing the bigger picture....See MorePicea abies 'Vermont Gold'
Comments (3)I had this conversation with Talon Buchholz this summer. The Vermont Gold in his display gardens had a slight bit of burn. He thought in areas of the country that have higher humidity they can be placed in fuller exposure to sun. I am in the Ohio River valley where it is very humid in the summer. I have several that I got from Buchholz and placed them in filtered light and direct sun. I haven't seen much difference. They vastly under-perform compared to what they look like in the PNW. The foliage never colors up for us and often looks down right bad. I know several other folks in my area that have them and they report the same. I will be interested to hear how it does for you. The consensus around here is there are better plants to fill that space in the landscape....See MoreFour years of Picea abies 'Dandylion'
Comments (11)doesn't seem to burn in full sun ==>> if i were garen .. i would not compare midwest INDIANA full sun .. to the PNW ... it MIGHT have to do with full sun and cool nights .. a recovery period lets call it.. that we in the midwst dont have .. especially in july/august ... but then the burn doesnt show until after winter burn ... something about those blistering winter winds and all .... and i dont mean to knock this specific plant .... i have no experience with it ..... its just.. as a hosta grower ... my radar always goes up ... when regional claims of sun tolerance are mentioned .... i would suggest that it remains to been seen as to its sun tolerance ..... until its been garden tested in more diverse regions ....... should bob wish such.. he can send me a plant for long term observation ... .. lol .. i am just kidding ... momma said its not becoming to beg ... and i listened to momma.. ken...See Moreplantkiller_il_5
