Comments (9)"Yes, it's true...there's lot of folks lined up to buy the Brooklyn Bridge." I honestly don't know your point here, however, I am going to assume that you are agreeing with me, since you used the Brooklyn Bridge in your example. As we know, the Brooklyn Bridge was originally named the New York and Brooklyn Bridge. However, it was dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge 18 months before construction started and that was the more popular name. One must wonder if Roebling also constantly told politicians that there is no such thing as The Brooklyn Bridge? ======= Please note I am not saying there is such a thing as modern farmhouse style. I am just noting that there is little reason to expect a layman to know that. Furthermore, maybe one day there will be, we might want expertise to be the assigner and arbiter of names, but in reality pop culture names most things. I assure you that your car has likely never actually depreciated. It certainly had no additional depreciation just because you drove it off the lot. However, misuse can become so popular that it is no longer misuse....See Moretoo much brick on exterior of building
Comments (26)Well shutters are a hard no. And I couldn’t agree more that your entire budget could be spent on landscaping and still not be enough. It really feels like a concrete jungle. Do you own the parking lot? I would be willing to give up paking spaces for islands of greenery. Definitely take the advice to hire a pro to design, install, and maintain. Along with hydrangea I love beach roses for their ease of maintenance, smell, and attractiveness to birds. I love Denise‘s ideas (hi Denise!) I was anti-paint until her photos. I could see a no-maintenance limewash working with navy accents and LOTS of greenery. If not, the doors, windows, and railings need to be painted/replaced to reduce the contrast with the brick. I don’t think colonial trim is going to do this place any favors. Glass railings would be a pricy but modern update if combined with new storm doors (honestly do you NEED storm doors? Are there even bugs at the shore any more? :/ ) and other modern updates....See MoreExterior brick - new build
Comments (3)Thank you. I chose a very dark grey/charcoal siding and cedarwood posts to go with more of a monochromatic look with some organic texture. Siding isn't on yet but hopefully seeing that will help pull the look together more vs. me just focusing on the bricks that stand out....See MoreNew house white brick and mortar combination
Comments (12)Our General Shale friends tried to talk us into the Winterhaven brick. I thought it too flat and stark for the old brick look that I wanted. I do have a friend that used it on her ginormous home. She used a buff colored mortar and has black windows. It looks great. JP Haus - As you can see from the above photo, we used a darker brick for the skirt and the steps because of the dirt worry. It worked with the exception of the area where the ground elevation changed on the side and the dark brick was covered. The Magnolia Bay was close too the ground so we have mud that will not come off. My DH tried to scrub and power wash after I told him not to and I think it looks worse. Bushes will eventually cover it up, however. A K - Here is a close-up of the brick and mortar....See Moremillworkman
