Don’t forget the mortar choice which can change the brick look. We are using same brick co and they gave us samples of 10 diff color mortars to choose from. Our brick is the Alamo.

Based on everything I've seen, modern farmhouse is defined by the person building it. Then they can feel that they are on trend.

If you have to use brick on the exterior then I'd go with the last of your options. White trim, gray siding, and the mountain branch brick.

If you could do just brick on the columns then I would choose to do that and do either gray or white siding with white trim.

Just to be fair, Architectural Digest, Dwell, and Architect Magazine (which is the official magazine of the American Institute of Architects), have all referred to "Modern farmhouse" as titles and descriptors. Additionally, many architects (several pages of Google results) use the term to market their designs.

So how is the average person supposed to understand that it isn't a style?

While all of the above may well just be marketing, that is how marketing and nomenclature works. When the people who are supposed to know what they are talking about start pointing at something and callling it a name, don't be surprised if it catches on.

This happens all the time in many different fields. I will give you a hint, your personal car doesn't actually depreciate. However, that has become the accepted nomenclature for the loss of value your car suffers as it ages.

Yes, it's true...there's lot of folks lined up to buy the Brooklyn Bridge. .

But I have to tell you...for a bridge, it's sorta old. And just because there's folks in a line, doesn't always mean there's something of value at the head of the line.

And I always look to AD, Dwell and Architecture for recommendations before I make a decision.

I honestly don't know your point here, however, I am going to assume that you are agreeing with me, since you used the Brooklyn Bridge in your example.

As we know, the Brooklyn Bridge was originally named the New York and Brooklyn Bridge. However, it was dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge 18 months before construction started and that was the more popular name. One must wonder if Roebling also constantly told politicians that there is no such thing as The Brooklyn Bridge?

Please note I am not saying there is such a thing as modern farmhouse style. I am just noting that there is little reason to expect a layman to know that. Furthermore, maybe one day there will be, we might want expertise to be the assigner and arbiter of names, but in reality pop culture names most things.

I assure you that your car has likely never actually depreciated. It certainly had no additional depreciation just because you drove it off the lot. However, misuse can become so popular that it is no longer misuse.
