Any under the counter Advantium/speed oven owners?
Comments (4)I have the 120 Advantium installed under the counter in an island. Works great have not had any issues. We really did not have any other logical place to put it. It has turned out to be a perfect location. From everything I could tell the only reason GE addresses is for liability. With small children it makes it easily accessible to them. The only possible issue I have encountered is that it is also nose height for my dog. She generally is not in there but once in a while she tries to get sneaky. There is a trade off in that you must bend over or as I have learned to do with my back squat to put things in or take them out. On the flip side it is easier to remove hot dishes and lift than it is to lower them from a taller location. Ideally I think counter level would work best but then most of us don't have ideal conditions....See Moreusing countertop micro UNDER counter -- 3 feet rule?????
Comments (7)The testing thing makes the most sense. I used to be involved in patient-based clinical research and the parameters of study were sometimes quite narrow, to limit the number of variables. Then, when the new drug application was filed with the FDA and the "labeled use" was determined, the indications of the drug could be interpreted rather narrowly. Using the drug or device outside these parameters often made sense, but it could not be promoted for such. Its probably a similar thing...it was tested on a standard height kitchen counter so it is "labeled for use" at standard kitchen counter height, when in reality, its use at other heights is not contraindicated. I recently saw a kitchen where the OTR microwave was 60" off the floor. I think it is much more dangerous to be removing a steaming dish at eye level than below waist level, but it was mounted OTR as tested, so it was not in violation. I have also seen them on top of refrigerators: again, removing something from over the head or while standing on a stool is more dangerous,,,but it is above the 3' height--so its in an okay spot according to the specs. But not in practice....See MoreWould under-counter mounting a Miele combi oven harm a countertop?
Comments (1)I don't think it would pose a problem to the counters, but I don't feel comfortable answering that. If you call Miele, you will get good advice, I think. The ventilation is for the electronics, NOT the steam. I retrofitted a combi steam in an existing cabinet, and I had to research that question. Basically, you need air circulation for electronics behind the oven....See MoreOven under induction cooktop or under the counter
Comments (5)Either setup can work and I would choose the best based on function, not form. One thing you should be aware of is that you have to respect the required clearances between the oven and cooktop, which means an oven under a cooktop will likely be lower to the ground than an range oven is. Although it may be okay to lift something off the oven's rack, you'll likely find that having a (hot) door that pretty much opens onto the floor is an annoyance. Another consideration is whether or not you prefer to stand in front of an oven that is venting warm air onto you while you are tending to a cooktop....See MoreTerri Wilson
