Any under the counter Advantium/speed oven owners?

I've read through threads here that state GE insists the Advantium should be install at/above counter height. I would love to install mine under the counter ... preferential layout. Has anyone done this? Warranty problems? I will be installing the wall oven under the counter. I'm not a fan of tall cabinets. I feel it closes in the kitchen. What about the other speed oven/micro combos that are available. This second oven would be the main one since it will be only the two of us. I tried to find info on the specs for the new 240 that is supposedly the same size as the 120 and has microwave abilities. Any word on the installation requirements for that?

I have the 120 Advantium installed under the counter in an island. Works great have not had any issues. We really did not have any other logical place to put it. It has turned out to be a perfect location.

From everything I could tell the only reason GE addresses is for liability. With small children it makes it easily accessible to them.

The only possible issue I have encountered is that it is also nose height for my dog. She generally is not in there but once in a while she tries to get sneaky.

There is a trade off in that you must bend over or as I have learned to do with my back squat to put things in or take them out. On the flip side it is easier to remove hot dishes and lift than it is to lower them from a taller location. Ideally I think counter level would work best but then most of us don't have ideal conditions.

We put our Advantium 120 at counter height: cabinet above, drawers below. It is PERFECT!
If you have the room, I highly recommend it. No bending, no reaching - it is a great solution.

Thanks, pillog. The dimensions and storage suggestions are extremely helpful. As for the 27" vs. 30", I'd love to have a 30" but the problem is how to fit one in. I'm working around various obstacles (e.g., a chimney) and fixed features (e.g., unmovable doors and some unmovable walls) that limit what we can do with the space. On the other hand, I hadn't thought about what would happen if the 27" ovens die and replacements can't be found. The current ovens are decades old and still work fine, but I guess that's not likely to repeat itself, given the life expectancy of current appliances. It may be time to look at those plans again and see if there's a way to steal 3 inches...

I have a Breville Smart Oven which we bought when our only oven decided to die in early April and we decided not to spend $300 having it fixed so we could tear it out in late June (we hope). The Smart Oven has worked remarkably well as a replacement for day to day stuff, although obviously there are some things that won't fit. I just checked my 13x9 pyrex pan. It won't fit in the Breville, but it's actually nearly 15" long because of its handles. I tried a ceramic baking pan that, at it's biggest, is a tiny bit more than 12x8 (ie, maybe 12 1/8 by 8 1/8 or so). That fits. I measured the inside and you could get just the right 13x9 pan in there. Maybe a metal one with no handles. The 9" dimension isn't an issue at all. OK. That was a long winded way of saying a 13x9 pan might fit, depending on the exact size of the outside of the pan. Oh, yeah and it toasts nicely.

Hi. I have my Advantium 240 below counter as well. I agree with the above posters. Just get a microwave if you think you will use it as a microwave. I got it imy advantium in 2008 and initially loved it as a speed oven (even raving about it on here). But I have used it as microwave only for at least 5 years now. It was over $2000 if I remember and I could have bought a built in micro for a few hundred. As far as the below counter, I know the specs say no install below 36 inches but I see no difference between a regular oven and an advantium below counter so ignored the specs. When I had it serviced...the GE repair guy didn’t mention it as a probably for the warranty either.

We have two Advantiums- one under the counter and one over our oven. I find the one under the counter much easier to use as the one over the oven is a bit high for me to reach. I have heard of other people who also have them under the counter having no service issues with warranty repairs for their's. I don't think most appliance repairers even know that it shouldn't be under the counter. Of course there is always a risk when you don't follow the manufacturers recommendations, though.

I have small children and just use the "lock out" feature so that they won't touch the buttons (I also do this for my lower wall oven).

I love my Advantiums and couldn't be happier about them!

Thanks to all for your insights. Any info on the new 240? The GE or Monogram websites didn't have anything.
