Annie1992's Molasses Cookies question

I'm getting ready to make these cookies and the recipe calls for 2 teaspoons ginger. Annie says she uses 1/2 cup of crystalized ginger. Is that in place of the 2 teaspoons ginger or in addition to?

Also, for others who have made these cookies, have you used that much ginger? ground or crystalized? I just opened a new bottle of crystalized, took one bite and needed a drink of water-very hot! I don't remember that amount of heat from my last bottle. I suppose that varies and am not sure last bottle was the same brand.
