White/white/white kitchen refresh FINISHED
Comments (85)Hi island. Our banquette was built (several years ago) by the same guy who did our cabinets. There is no back on it ... just loose pillows, which we sort of toss around depending on how many people are actually sitting on it. It does have storage. There are sliding doors on the long front of it (this is not easy storage to access but it's for the cookbooks I pull out once a year, etc.) and a "morgue" drawer that comes out from the end (where we keep all the dog leashes, collars, etc. Super handy storage!). I will take some measurements tonight or tomorrow for you, but I recall that the seat is about 19" tall after the cushion is on. I made the cushion extra thick, 4 inches, and raised it up a little because I prefer to sit a little higher at a table. The chairs came with the house and I sort of painted them on a whim. I used Annie Sloan's chalk paint, which was OK, although I'm not sure it was any better than any other kind of paint, other than not having to prime them first. They do seem to be wearing well though. Hope that helps for now. More to follow....See More10yr kitchen refresh
Comments (34)akjr, our range is a Maytag Gemini from 10 years ago. At the time, our DDs were 2 and 3 so I liked the knobs for the stove top away from little hands, even though it decreased the pan area some. We have liked the separate ovens, especially at Thanksgiving and for baking. It has served us well. Knowing it is 10 years old, I just am assuming it will need to be replaced soon. Thanks to everyone for their comments. The desk is further along than this, but I'm working on the top trim for the hutch next to the desk now....See MoreKitchen "Refresh" -- Lengthy and with lots of photos!
Comments (9)I know painting the cabinets will be relatively expensive -- but they need it! The color is fine but they look horrible with all the paint chipping off. You can't see it in the photos but it's there! And as everyone comes in the house through the kitchen, i can't really hide it. I feel that if I would have them painted when we go to sell, I might as well do it now and enjoy it for the next several years. @cyc2001 I would LOVE to replace the OTR microwave with a hood, but I have decided this is one thing that isn't going to be worth the cost of doing as I would have to install a hood and relocate the microwave as well. Painting will cost the most and I think replacing the backsplash and moving the TV won't be as expensive. @cluelessincolorado if I keep the cabinet color the same, and do a subway tile backsplash up to the bottom of the cabinet, do you think a traditional white would look good, or am I better off going with an ivory? If I do move the TV where the open shelf is, then of course, I'm getting rid of the "clutter" of my coffee canisters, honey and decorative rooster jugs. I do want to keep my coffee maker and coffee items out because I do use them everyday as I rush off to work. Wondering if that funny space at the end of the counter would work for a coffee station?...See MoreMini refresh of my kitchen - away from Tuscany
Comments (130)Butternut, I'm thinking more of proportions like this (and yes, I realize yoru window is larger and wider), It would be about as long altogether as you have it now, but the longer part would the "drop" (I don't know what the correct term is, sorry!) before the swag rather than the swag itself. I think it also might look better to hang the roman shade higher, so that it's the same height as the cabinets. Which would give you more light/window AND more fabric. That might be worth playing around with....See Moremtnrdredux_gw
