Newly moved in, need ideas for dining room...
Just finished our latest project of replacing our old liquor shelving to the full length floor to ceili g.
We have 10 foot ceilings and a 12 foot dining table. Im now ready to tackle the existing pendant—now the lights that came with the house is dwarved. Any ideas? Also wall ideas maybe? Though the other side of the room already has artwork on the wall, it feels too much to have every wall be occupied.
What do you recommend for a statement lighting piece and maybe wall art or treatment?

Comments (14)Thanks for your suggestions! Yes the fireplace is working and unfortunately I think the TV is too big to put on the fireplace (it sticks out at the end, is that okay?). As for the dining table, there is no real space behind the bar stools. That is the entrance to our home and it's just a narrow hallway. The other thing I'm worried about with putting the TV where it is now is that the space behind the couch feels under-utilized... Comments (11)My questions are: Do you use a dining room? For sit-down dinners, I mean. Do you use a living room? It's certainly thinkable to reconfigure these rooms. Serving and clearing up in a dining room that is farther from the kitchen is a little less convenient than when it's adjacent, although a full-grown butler's pantry could include a dishwasher and sink along with storage for the best china, flatware, and glassware (a very traditional layout in a large home). But if you don't use a dining room now, you probably won't in the future. And is your living room mainly for show (and receiving the pastor, etc.)? So many of us essentially live in our family rooms (which might be the den in your current layout) and only use the official living room for special occasions. Sometimes a family room that is open to the kitchen, plus a den for quiet and privacy, makes the most sense. If expanding the kitchen is the top priority and you don't actually use the living room, this could make sense. Or a living room-dining room combination might make sense. But please think carefully about how you actually live in your house....See More

PRO3 years agoIn the dining room, the chandelier needs to give a direct light to the diners, therefor the recommended size of the chandelier is 1/3 of the table size and the recommended height is 36" from the table. You can use a modern chandelier for your 10 foot ceilings 12 foot dining table.

Thank you everyone! Definitely felt weird that my lights were not wide enough--having the formula of it being at least half the length really helps. Unfortunately, I can only get it to 39 inches from the surface of the table :(... all the lights I was interested in just doesn't go that low and are all meant for 8 foot tall ceilings :|.
I ended up getting 2 of these in silver. Will have it installed this weekend. Yay!
