Are you making travel plans for 2021?

I'm thinking about rescheduling the 2020 fall trip I cancelled. It would be plane travel in September. I think things will be better by then but I also think the jury is still out. We have no idea how many people will get vaccinated or how long vaccine immunity will last. And I have this nagging thought that no one seems to mention. If immunity only lasts a few months and the majority of people don't get vaccinated in short order then it seems the whole thing could cycle up again. If the vast majority get vaccinated within a relatively short period of time then it seems we have a better chance of knocking this thing back to a relatively "safe" level. If they don't then it seems like there could be a problem. I guess I can make all the refundable reservations again and cancel again if needed. Just wondering what others are thinking/planning for the coming year.

Lakeaffect, thank you for the link. My son is coming home for spring break tomorrow, and his university hasn't given any indication that classes will not resume after the break. Its web site has information and updates on the coronavirus, and indicates it's working with the city's health department to monitor outbreaks, which so far, have not reached the city. I'm an adjunct at a community college in a major metropolitan area that has seen a few cases. My college has not mentioned anything. Nothing. I just did a search at its web site, my inbox... nada. Our spring break is in a few weeks, so perhaps our officials are working on a plan. I'm surprised by the lack of information because they're usually excellent facilitators of information to our community.

We keep thinking about this. DH keeps suggesting road trips but even that, I don't know what it will be like to stay in hotels and eating at restaurants seems less appealing. We did a big international trip a year ago, and then we did a road trip to Quebec in November. We were supposed to visit friends in Florida this winter, but we never did book the flights and then you know... We have done one outdoor dining and I was fine with that, but in general wearing a mask to go into the restaurant (rest room) doesn't bother me and I understand it and do it of course, but it's a reminder that things are off. I keep trying to think when we will feel ok about really traveling- and I just keep saying I don't know I don't know I don't know.

Mazerolm - And I just noticed that you are in z3, wow! I'd think that is a very challenging winter climate to work with. Great that you can grow something so gorgeous! I don't have ideal conditions for Iris. I've grown Bearded Iris, which I love, but I found them more than I could manage because they don't do as well, if you aren't able to pull them up and divide and replant every few years. I did it once and it was a job. I had 'Beverly Sills' a pink and white frilly tall one and another one that was almost black and velvety. Oh well, you can't grow everything but I can surely enjoy yours!

As long as it's not Siberian Elm (which where I am is surprisingly common). SE has a messy, weepy look and often bleeds down the trunk. Highly susceptible to wind and ice damage. Smaller leaves than native elms. Of course it's highly resistant to the Elm diseases because it evolved along side them. Much like the sad situation with the American Chestnut. Steven American, Slippery, and Cork Elm are native but susceptible to Dutch Elm Disease and phloem necrosis. American Elms are large, grand, vase shaped shade trees at their best. Sadly, very few mature, old trees remain due to the foreign pestilence they face. I'll have to take photos of two I know of in "my town". We have lost several over the years, and I only know of two locally now.
