Old man grows up OR True Confessions.
Comments (14)You are right that it is very hard for kids to lose an important relationship and they tend to blame themselves. So you were right to wait! That said I think it is wonderful that you want to do it. I love the ads on tv lately, saying that there are young boys ready and willing to share their friendship and wisdom with an adult man (every one of whom is precious.) It can be a wonderful fufilling experience and you sound like you have a lot to give. I have been a big sister, in my 20s. (I am now 53.) I had some regrets because after about a year the girl had some major problems, did something rather terrible (not to me), moved around and we lost touch. I think if I had been older and more experienced (I have since been a foster parent, and also worked with children and families with difficulties,) I would have looked for her and found her and stuck it out as her friend. Most kids looking for big brothers and sisters are not as troubled, fortunately, but it can happen. My caution is to make sure that there is a very experienced person that you can talk to, and that you are willing to do it, in case there are difficulties. This is what was lacking in my case. Good luck, I hope I haven't scared you away. I know of many matches that were wonderful experiences creating important long term relationships. Let us know. kathy...See MoreTrue Confessions
Comments (16)Call her up and tell her you've just discovered that the fish have the dreaded Fish Flu and you'll be right over to pick them up and rush them to the Center for Disease Control. After you have the fish back, ask if she has been vaccinated and urge her to see her physician ASAP since she is going to need a long series of painful and expensive injections. Or she could just wait and see if she develops scales in unusual areas....See MoreTrue Confessions....
Comments (44)I have just reviewed this thread from beginning to end. I can find no instance that ANYONE said there is anything wrong with sharing. I am not against sharing. I share often of my time, experience, feelings, plants, produce, and many other things. To me sharing is between 2 or more, with mutual knowledge and consent, for satisfaction and enjoyment of everyone involved. When I am walking or riding my bicycle, I often see something pleasing. I can enjoy it where it is growing. I do not cross a property line uninvited. If someone is outside, I might start a conversation. If I am in my own yard, I sometimes offer to share something I have with some one showing an interest. An immigrant said, "I like", and started picking up mulberries from the ground in my yard. The next morning I dug up a fruit bearing tree about 30' tall and 3" in diameter. I carried it on my bicycle to her home. Her son and I planted it. They live about 3 miles away. The son is mentally challenged. We all enjoyed sharing. The grandson has down syndrome. I pulled him from the bottom of the pool at their apartment complex and started teaching him to swim. That was before they got their own home. I know about sharing. I came to this forum for sharing. Now I will calmly and quietly turn and leave the forum....See MoreTrue-confessions time!
Comments (45)Can't play the piano - had a sax when a youth: it was left in Korea with the local university. Not so hot at cooking - but have a bit of a pot that I carry around with me. Have weeds in the garden that are darn near as tall as I am. My little Mazda is almost 24 years old ... it's been running pretty well, but was sluggish a couple of weeks ago and left me on the road one night - scarcely crossed a road after "STOP" sign, then died and wouldn't start. Hitch-hiked home - a relative picked me up, then back in the morning, car started right off ... barely ran for a couple of minutes, then faded out. They towed it in, it was firing late (they'd figutred that a few days before when I took it in) and using gas like crazy. They'd thought that it needed computer upgrading/repairs ... ... but after they towed it in, adjusted the timing belt, and it's running fine. Stick shift lets me turn it off when a signal light goes yellow, half a block ahead ... and down hills (if there's no one running up my tailpipe). Darn them small cars! When one goes shopping, they seem to have a habit of hiding in behind the big ones! That's about all of the foibles that I'm willing to admit to in public. ole joyfuelled...See More- 5 years ago
