e-cards -- do you have favorite site?
Comments (23)I got a belated e-card from a friend wishing me Happy Birthday. I wish I hadn't. I would have preferred she skip the whole thing. Christmas cards seem the last vestige of a lovely tradition of keeping in touch. I always consider them part of the gifts of the holiday season, that someone would take a little time to write a note and send a card. Of course there are those who don't write the notes, but send the card. Either way, with text messaging and digital everything, I like the now ''old fashioned'' tradition. I also cut way back on my card list after realizing there were those who don't really care about them. I still do though, and it's the one time of year I enjoy going to the mailbox....See MoreRECIPE: Do you have a favorite latke recipe?
Comments (6)I use matzah meal, I've never made them with flour. I use the food processor these days. I seem to lose too much of my knuckle when I grate them by hand. I make a ton and then freeze them and bake them, but their the best right from the frying pan! Potato Latkes 6 medium Idaho potatoes 2 medium yellow onions 2 large eggs 1/4 cup matzoh meal, or 3 tablespoons all-purpose, unbleached flour 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper Chicken fat, or vegetable oil, for frying Applesauce Sour cream Peel potatoes and place in cold water. Using a box grater, grate potatoes and onions into large bowl. Transfer potato-and-onion mixture to a colander set over a bowl, and squeeze out excess moisture. Return mixture to bowl. In separate bowl, combine eggs, matzo meal or flour, and salt and pepper, to taste. Combine all ingredients, adding more matzo meal if mixture is too wet. In large skillet, heat 1/2-inch oil (or chicken fat) over medium-high heat. Drop tablespoon or serving spoon-size portions of mixture into hot oil, and press down with spoon to flatten. Fry until brown and crispy on edges; turn until golden brown on each side, cooking 3 minutes per side. Remove to paper towels to drain. Serve with applesauce or sour cream....See MoreHave your radio stations started Christmas music?
Comments (15)We sing in a Christmas chorale and have to memorize all our music. That's pretty much all the Christmas music I can get into. We have a local radio station that starts playing non-stop Christmas music about a week before Thanksgiving. I refuse to listen to that station any longer. There's only so much Burl Ives' Holly Jolly Christmas and Brenda Lee's Rockin Around the Christmas Tree I can stomach. I only listen to Sirius radio, my iTunes music or one local talk radio station. If there is a weather emergency and I happen to be in the car, I will tune into a local station for updates....See MoreWhere do I find a Christmas scrapbook album?
Comments (8)I would look on Etsy. Try "Scrapbook with Christmas paper pages." I like that you can contact the sellers and if they don't have exactly what you want, you can likely find someone to make one.
