What color for front door and fixtures?
We just painted the exterior of our house, Aesthetic White and Greek Villa (trim) by Sherwin Williams, but we’re getting stuck on the front door color. We painted it a very dark brown color (accidentally), and we don’t like it. door hardware is black. We originally wanted a dark graphite color but really aren’t sure what will match.
we have a walkway with browns, grays and reds in it, and black fixtures (we can paint these). Curious what you’d recommend to try tying this together? Colors? Add shutters next to windows? We’re going for a contemporary craftsman look. What would tie this together and provide some visual interest?

Seconding no shutters. Paint sidelight windows in white then paint door a lighter shade of this teal so it will harmonize with your stone.

Example with sidelight windows painted same color as door. You'll have to prime all the brown with white anyway, so do that, then paint the door and see if you should finish painting the sidelight windows white or paint them same color as door. It depends on how intense a color you pick for the door.

Comments (9)People have storm doors because, they open doors and pull down the screen for air. A storm door has a security lock on it, for safety. Phantom screens are wrecked by children and pets go right through them and can escape your property and end lost or worse. I personally, would never ever be without storm doors on my house. Comments (24)The suggestions so far have been great, so thanks! I know that it's wise to focus on more than the cosmetics of the fixture. In my case, though, the front door light would primarily be an adornment because that door receives very little use, even from visitors. And because our neighborhood street lights are brighter than the sun, visibility after dark is good. I don't mean to minimize the importance of good lighting, but that isn't the motivation here. Comments (8)Good point about the garage doors fading away. When I bought my house they were a contrasting color. Once I painted them the same color as the body of the house, the house seemed much larger. Also, the front porch was more prominent. I think if you do this for your house, then your very lovely front porch will become the focal point. Right now, it competes with the garage doors. 3 years agoI have no idea. Light conditions, landscaping, personal taste all play into the decision. The black will look crisp the way your brown does. (I like the brown, which goes well with the stone.) Here are some houses with tan stone entry/walkway, which have black doors, but more glass in them. Do a Goggle search of "white house, black door, tan stone walkway" or the blue, and probably a ton of Pinterest images will pop up. Good luck!

Your interesting stone chimney echoes your tan stonework in front. Why do you want to limewash it?. If you do anything, a colorful door--light teal??--could be lovely. I provided an example earlier. 3 years agoYou could also consider a very deep green for the door, which would work well with your stone and paint colors. This is SW Rookwood.
