Your setting is so naturalistic I see the rust more than the pumpkin. I could also see going deeper and redder to coordinate with the lovely Japanese maples

I love your home, Bunny! I'm leaning towards Pumpkin Pie. Your house looks similar in color to mine. Have you considered a gold-ish color similar to the flowers out front? Need to find a photo of mine.

How much do you want your screen door to stand out?

To my eye, the pumpkin color advances more than the rust.

The rust seems a similar shade to your Japanese maples in the photos, so relates to your landscaping.

The pumpkin will reflect the California poppies when in bloom.

Both colors are attractive, and neither choice would be a mistake. (You can tell how I make my own color decisions -- will this be a big mistake?)

Edited to add: For your own reference, you could take photos of the two colors from the sidewalk and see which you prefer.

I tried some colors closer to the poppies, and it was a little much. What occurs in nature doesn't always come out right in paint. I want a little pizzazz but not too shouty. The rust is a shade I have in my house, but it tends to recede a bit on the door. Most of my yard colors are white or purple and that's why a splash from the other side of the color wheel appeals to me.

I think they're both nice, but have a slight preference for Pumpkin Pie. It's just so happy and fresh!

I'm stalling doing both from the sidewalk because one side of the board is pumpkin and the other is rust. Okay, hold on.

I would normally lean towards rust, but the pumpkin pie looks perfect!

Here's from the street with a little zoom in. In any other context I prefer the rust, in fact, deeper reds. I can't get enough. But as a single feature I think the pumpkin does a little something extra. BTW, I love the color of the Japanese maples right now. They're like this in the spring and fall, but during the summer they're more a gold-green.

Seeing them both together, it’s definitely pumpkin for me. It looks softer if that is possible. And I think it’s a better contrast for the soft purples and whites you have in your garden too.

Oakley, those are California poppies. Scattered some seeds and they spread through the neighborhood. They're irrepressible and define spring for me.

Pumpkin Pie. To me it has the right depth to work with the siding. Plus I think its vibrancy works well with your flowers.

You guys have been so helpful. The rust is a safer call, but I'm itching to go with pumpkin. I've got to get the screens replaced thanks to the little guy in the last photo behind the door. It will be a good time for me to paint.

ETA: BTW, for those of you who take urban walks through residential neighborhoods, one of my favorite pastimes is to check out front doors. So much variety and personality.

I think you should invent paintable interchangeable screen-door fronts. You’ll make a fortune off people like me who can’t decide, or like others who want to change colors as the landscape changes. (Although, the PO of our house put in a progression of pinks, from purple-pink irises in the spring, to echinacea in summer, and sedum Autumn Joy in the fall.)

You know what else I like about you guys? I didn't set down any rules, and not one of you suggested a pale blue, or any blue. Thank you for that. :)

They both look nice but my favorite is the happy pumpkin.

A shade of purple would be pretty as well.

I don't care for Pumpkin Pie because there's not enough real estate on the screen door alone to make a statement with it. I actually like the purple above with your landscape and siding color.

Purple is nice for my flowers, but not what my door needs.

Next time (as if) I’ll take it off its hinges and remove the hardware. I’m not happy with FrogTape’s performance. It pulled some of the new paint off but I think I’ve touched it up okay.

I spent a long time prepping this door. FrogTape didn't leave clean lines, but pulling up new paint is an egregious sin. I was beside myself until I figured out touching up with a fine artist's brush would hide the flaws. You have to get really close to the door knob to see it's not perfect. I'm already over it.

Thanks again everyone. You helped me do this. If you guys, my daughter, and best gfs like it, it's good enough for me. The neighbors have yet to weigh in. They pretty much stick to what the builder gave them 30 years ago.

One if the reasons I think it IS perfect is because it's not taking up a lot of real estate. It's absolutely perfect. Orange is beautiful in the right setting and in controlled doses.
