My really old kidney failure, and failing thyroid kitty gets to have bits of chicken every time she has to take pills. I figure she's earned it at this ripe old age.

Oh yes, the old meowing and insisting on having some food put in her bowl just as I settle down in my chair. Then she'll walk over to the bowl, sniff, maybe sample a teeny bit, then walk away. Repeat an hour or two later. (not that there's anything wrong with the food, she eventually eats it all.

Izzi has me well trained, barks at me till I come and sit with her in my recliner! Barks at me when she thinks it is time to eat, barks at me when she wants me up in the morning. She is a ten pound Pomeranian.

One cat is in absolute heaven, having her boy doing courses and work from home. In the study with him, she has her fleece-lined basket on the floor, her fleece pad on the guest bed, DS' lap, and me to open the door for her when he's in class. At night, of course, she has his bed, which she shares... Mostly. DS tells me that in the morning, after DH gives the cats breakfast, she comes back to bed and nudges DS over to make room. Yeah, she's spoiled, perfectly. So is DS, by having such a loving and loyal kitty.

Pets? Pets, you say? Oh no, my chihuahua and kitty do not see themselves as pets. Maybe (and they are, truly) members of the family, but I think they see my address as their own little five star hotel.

Yes, there are some that say that domestic animals should 'know their place'. And mine do. Usually right smack in the middle of the recliners I got not too long ago. They figured out that there are two of them, and I bought two recliners. One each, right?

The chihuahua is a 'working dog' though. I am hearing impaired and she will bark a couple of times if someone is at the door. She will give another bark a little later if they are still out there.

And neither of them get into my plants or stuff. Worth spoiling.

You bet! In fact, a friend gifted me with a bone shaped sign that says "a spoiled rotten dog lives here" that I have hanging by my door!

He is spoiled in that he gets constant attention, accompanies me almost everywhere and has complete run of the house. He has trained me in his means of communication to let me know when he wants out and when it is dinnertime. The only time he ever barks is when he gets tangled up in his tie-out (to let me know to come rescue him) or when I don't let him back inside soon enough in bad weather. He can be quite demanding that way :-)

He is an eager eater and not at all fussy but I do spend time making his dinner - he gets fed once a day - as tasty as possible. His favorite kibble plus some wet food or or meaty gravy. Right now he is enjoying turkey bits in leftover gravy as a topper but routinely gets any meat scraps I might have - steak trimmings, chicken pickings, etc. He also knows when I have dry cereal for breakfast or a bowl of ice cream because he gets to have whatever is left in the bowl.

And when I stop at McDonald's on the infrequent occasion I get a Sausage McMuffin urge, I always order two.....he gets one and I get one!

But he deserves to be spoiled. He is the best mannered, best behaved dog I have ever owned. And is currently the primary factor in maintaining my sanity during these endless days of semi-isolation.

My dog lets us know when it’s dinner time, and he does sense when someone hasn’t finished their dinner and there may be a scrap for him sitting on the counter. But aside from that he has no expectations. Never looks for treats, never bothers me in the kitchen, never begs at the table. We do have treats but there’s no pattern or regularity in giving them to him so he never asks for them.

My in-laws’ dog on the other hand! The first time they dropped her off for pet sitting, it took minutes for her to realize the treats were in the laundry room. And for her to perk up snd get excited any time we walked toward that room. At my feet while cooking, at our sides while eating. MIL warned us that she’ll ask to be let out around 4am. She did. Peed for half a second and ran in the door straight to the laundry room. No, sorry, no positive reinforcement for waking me up. The interesting thing is how quickly she’s broken of her bad habits. The first time it took a couple days, but now she quickly remembers what doesn’t fly around here!

Yes, I have a spoiled boy dog. Since he is almost 15 now, he thinks he needs to tell me when it's time to go out, when it's time to go to bed and when it's time for me to come and help him off the bed. When he wants me to do something, he sits in front of me and sighs or cries until I figure out what he wants me to do.

Sunshine was already spoiled when she had a health scare a few years back. Her paw. It got better, but my husband and oldest daughter would bring her food to her. She could’ve made it to the dish, but I was so happy she was getting better I didn’t care.

Well, an already spoiled cat now views herself as the Queen of Sheba.

Living in a NYC apartment (not enough space) we have a Murphy bed. Sometime each evening (whenever her majesty feels like it) she goes and sits in front of it and stares at it. If that doesn’t work she may make some meow sounds. She’d prefer we just know our job and do it! Madam makes it known when she would like to retire.

We did until this year. Anything for our dog - we were his Personal Servants and then some.

When I walk into the kitchen all three cats think that is my only reason for doing this so they run to my built-in pantry and sit. (where the cat food is kept). The dogs are always underfoot when I am doing anything around the stove thinking for sure something will drop on the floor for them to grab. In the morning when the cats get their wet food, the dogs wait till they're done and then lick their dishes clean.

llly316 At least your dogs wait until your cats are finished eating! Our dogs have always been major food hounds (with each breed being worse than the other - go figure that one). Our Eskie was probably the worse - unflavoured pills were also food.

Lol! My dog is a working dog. It is his job to escort us on various car rides including daily trips to and from school. It's his job to let us know when people are at the door. He'll let us know about the people on the sidewalk on either side of the street too. It's his job to protect us from all of the birds, squirrels and bunnies in the back yard. He goes on trips to protect us from bad things like cows. He's always there for us in the kitchen if we need a taste tester or someone to clean up something we spilled.

No, spoiled pet for me now. I am looking forward to getting a standard poodle this spring. It won't be spoiled, but it will be loved and treasured.

Not to put too fine a point on this, but to me spoiled equals bad behavior.

If you don't like the term 'spoiled', then replace by pampered or indulged. Spoiled does not have to mean one with bad behavior (although that is the accepted definition) and in this case, I take it to mean a pet that demands or on which you lavish attention and affection.

I consider my dog 'spoiled' (pampered, indulged, loved beyond reason, etc.) but there is nothing about his behavior that is bad!

Napping this stormy, rainy day away on my daughter’s unmade (argh!) bed. He spends a lot of time on my kids’ beds. Never on ours, or on any other furniture.

Most of the furkids that have graced my life have not been demanding other than to be let outside. Did they have quirks that I allowed? Of course. From BeZee who cleaned my head when I slept to my current 20+ who only now comes and stands in front of me and gives a meow loud enough to be heard in the whole house when he wants food. Last year at this time I thought I was losing him so started giving extra food. He has gained weight so hopefully he will be here for several more years.

I do have lap sitters but they take turns and if I shake my head "no" they leave.

Spoiled = 50 new pink puffy balls. 4 cat trees placed in sunny windows. (our last rescue was declawed) We now watch TV & movies in the evenings, in bed, so we don't disturb the cats in our laps having to get up to go to bed. ☺

Yes, my two cats are spoiled and I'll gladly admit it.

They're quick to pick up on things. I've always had the habit of making tea in the evening. I'd take the kettle out of the cupboard and at the same time I'd give the cats some treats. After about the 3rd time of doing this, they quickly learned that the kettle=treats. So any time of the day that the kettle comes out, boom, they're there in the kitchen, when they were nowhere to be seen prior.

I refuse to get pedantic on a fun thread...but since Zalco started it (LOL!), I will say that "spoiled" = bad behavior to me too. :)

My furry kids rarely have any true bad behavior. I work really hard with them when they are puppies so that they grow up to be lovely adults.

They have quirks. Don't we all?! I indulge most of their quirks as long as it doesn't lead to bad behavior - and these 2 are very well-loved furballs.

So many people say a dog or pet is "spoiled", when all they mean is the animal lives a good life. I only wish all companion animals could be equally as spoiled as these 2.

I have a spoiled/pampered standard poodle. She also knows that I am the alpha and follows the house rules. (Most of the time.) She is allowed on her sofa in the family room. As far as I know, she hasn't gotten on any other furniture. She is also not allowed in the kitchen while I'm preparing meals. I don't want her under foot for her safety and mine. She is the love of our life and I really don't know what we would do without her. My husband calls her my velcro dog because she sticks so close to me.

I have a neighbor who has a shih tzu which is so out of control that her friends refuse to come to her house anymore! The dog jumps, scratches and bites! Can we say spoiled!!!! This neighbor asked me about a trainer and I gave her several names. I don't think she has pursued it.

I have basic rules for all dogs. Must be crate trained, no counter surfing, no senseless barking, basic obedience, proper leash behavior and polite manners in public, accept basic medication without tricks and understand I am the leader.

That said I do coddle them when it comes to affection handed out, inviting them up on the bed etc. handing out treats, letting them have the last bite off my plate. My current dog is very bonded to me. She has been known to howl at time for several minutes when I leave the house. She is better now that I am leaving the house so frequently. But sometimes she still lets out a few howls. Very demanding for hugs when I come back. Sometimes even if I was just out in the garage. She is not like this with DH. She loves him, hangs out with him a bit, even cuddles with him but I am her person. This Rottie loves hugs. Huge bear hugs and she hugs back. Fiercely.

She also has a job. She is my hearing assist dog. She alerts me to sounds and when someone is at the door. But she sees her job as much more.

Crate training is important for many reasons. The primary one is if a dog is grate trained they will do much better should they become ill or injured and have to be crated for recovery. Also if they must be transported or housed during a disaster. When my Lab had to have TPLO surgery he had to be entirely inactive for 8 weeks. Because he was crate trained it went much easier on him. He loved his crate. It was his and he spent a lot of time in it on his own. Because he was crate trained and knew to behave he was able to advance to an roomier x pen much sooner. Some of my dogs merely accept them. But all must be willing to lie quietly in them when asked to. For the good of the dog. It's not a convenience or a prison. It's never a punishment.

You train acceptance for medical stuff by handling and the same way you train anything. Pills are given matter of factly, without drama or hiding tricks. A small reward is given afterwards not during. Same with shots. I had a diabetic dog who would come and stand quietly for his twice daily insulin. It's just like training anything else. Love and compassion but a needs to get done attitude.

Oh my, YES! One very spoiled Malamute Husky mix and two grand dogs that spend a lot of time over here. Our Jack, wolfs at me when it’s his supper time and I am supposed to drop everything to comply and then after we have our supper all three wind up on our bed, waiting for their nighttime treat.

I have a heavily loved one! She has some special qualities. She can only eat cooked boneless skinless chicken breast steamed and ground up. She has had digestive issues her whole life unfortunately. Now she is on heart medication and blood pressure medication as well as her pepcid.

But she is our life. I really don't want to think about living without her.

Ugh, been there done that. One right after the other, right at about the one year mark. Awesome surgery though, eight years later his legs are holding up strong.

We have always pampered our cats, though we don't allow bad behaviour. The current pair have cat toys all over the house, and DH even created a special bed in the French doors overlooking the garden for them, complete with a higher shelf to get up onto and watch the world go by. (This is right next to their cat tower and climbable cat scratching post :-D) They also like to chew up cardboard boxes so we make sure to have a couple on the floor for them to sit in and tear up. We've even been known to leave on the airconditioning when we've gone out for the day on a day when it's expected to go over 100F.

One of our previous cats got very picky about food when she was very old (about 20) and would only eat fresh salmon. We indulged her- we don't drink much or smoke at all, so we spend our discretionary income on our kitties. The vet said that when he died he wanted to come back as one of our cats! :-D

I can agree with most of these response's. Spoiled for sure. No cats here but dogs were always fed at will and have a doggie door for their convenience (or ours). Never crated ever. My grandpuppies are spoiled even more!

nah, i see no point in spoiling them (said in my best sarcastic voice). i would be embarrassed to tell you how much $$$ i've spent on dog beds and how many times i've slept on them myself so i didn't have to wake the danes up so i could go to bed! lol

My cats are very spoiled.....especially the two laying on top of me right now....Worms Mackenzie and Jerry, but probably most spoiled animal I have is Snoop, my oldest horse. He is 33 yrs old and arthritic. He is demanding and I cater to him. He is fed first and still he kicks the stall to hurry me up. No matter how much I threaten him...it does no good. He is not personable in any way. He evidently was never fussed over and he looks like he can barely tolerate me when I pet him. In hot weather, he gets a bath every day. If I don't do it, he goes in his stall and splashes himself with the water in his water bucket. He is always suspicious of my good intentions. I feed him soaked alfalfa cubes. It takes at least 45 minutes for them to get completely soft so he can eat them. He knows when he is supposed to have them, and I had better not be late. More stall kicking. Dirty looks. I call him Noopy, as a pet name, or "you old goat!" when he is being bad, but I love the old fart. I know his life was not always good, so I try to dote on him....as much as he will let me.

Yes, I have a dog who's extremely spoiled. I give her scratches whenever she asks, frequently take her on walks, give her plenty of extra treats and toys, and let her up on the couches and beds. I do this because I love seeing her so happy. That's why we spoil people (or pets), right? Because their happiness makes it all worth it.

Spoiled? Oh yes! My cat Myben always wants the milk when I eat cereal for breakfast. But she will only drink it if I spoon feed it to her

I don't think of it as "spoiled." We just like our pets to be comfortable and happy. Many don't allow pets on the furniture or beds, but we don't mind.

I don't consider them spoiled, but indulged, yes. Actually, they have us trained. It's all about the cats at our house. We have five indoor-only right now, and just this morning agreed that we won't adopt another at the moment. Each has quirks, as all dogs and cats most likely do. And they are so smart. Just for fun, after watching an audition on America's Got Talent, I thought I'd try my hand at teaching them some tricks. Got me a clicker, glued a ping pong ball on the end of a dowel and gave it a try. Most weren't interested, but Bruno will do pretty much anything I ask. He'll jump through a hoop for me! Tickles me immensely.

That's four, count 'em, four sharing my recliner. And they'll follow me to bed when it's cold. Makes it difficult for two people to move in only a full-size bed, but we love having them close.

Not really. Some of them we have had probably have thought they were, considering where some of them came from. But ours are pretty well trained,know what will fly and what won't. No pets on the furniture, they have their own furniture. They do get table scraps,but that is more of a not wanting to waste issue than a treat situation, though they may see it differently. They have lots of toys, but they need toys or else they would get bored and tear everything apart. Plus I want them to have a fun, happy life.I love them all to distraction, and would gladly take them over most people, but i or SO is/are the boss. We have large, powerful dogs and its important for them to know who is in charge.
