Holly plant with multiple trunks

Stephen P

I recently bought six Oakleaf Holly (Ilex x 'Conaf') plants for a screening project. Long term, I'd like them to grow freely with little pruning and into their natural conical shape.

I noticed that the plants I bought from the nursery all have multiple, distinct trunks coming out of the soil, up to three of them. These were all the nursery had, so I wasn't able to be choosy.

Will this inhibit the long term conical shape that I'm looking for? After transplanting and establishment, should I prune off these additional trunks leaving only one?
