Awkward Living Room Space - Set up Help
Comments (12)Paint fireplace white or the same color as the walls, remove bookcase that is on the right side of the fireplace. Get a corner TV console for the left side of the fireplace....maybe tv will partially cover the window, but that is okay. Get some pretty artwork for over the fireplace and take the colors from that for pillows for your couch and a rug if you want. An ottoman or upholstered bench in front of your couch to be used for extra seating when you have company.......should be on rollers, easy to maneuver. Where the shelf unit is now, get a tall green plant..nothing else. If room, I think your chair and a small table will be good by the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs you could put a decorative shelf or console with drawers under the window...facing up the stairs. with a small viney plant on it. Oh, yes, I would pull your couch back as far as you can...without interfering with the door. To bad the door does not open the other way. Have fun rearranging. I do approve of your curtains...white sheers but they should be twice as full as they are now and the door curtain should match....See Morehelp me decide on how to spruce up the living room with curtains

Comments (14)The basic layout Beverly posted is your best bet and you might be able to put a table behind sofa or a reading/feeding baby area you might need. TIP, get a good rug pad for your rug on your tile. It will eliminate telescoping of grout lines in rug and be more comfortable. I would also remove those drapes and unless you need privacy, which doesn’t look like it hence I wouldn’t add any drapes. Possibly solar shades if you need light control. A few strategically placed plants might be all you need....See MoreNeed help with sprucing up a living room!
Comments (7)I would not put a rug under the dining table. A rug under the dining table would mean you would have more cleanup, unless everyone in your family or everyone coming over is a neat freak. A rug under a dining room table at my place would last a very short time. Another problem with a rug under the dining room table is that it would chop the room up more. Ideally, the room goal should be unification and cohesiveness. When someone says they're trying to make a place more lively, that to me means a lot more color. I'm seeing mostly lights and darks. Please specify what you mean when you say more lively, so we know exactly what you mean. I would add a lot of bright red accents in accessories, but that's me. Currently I see a lot of dark and light. Depending on the light, the only medium tones I see are in the couch, the screen, and the dining table. You may want to find an online place to do your redecorating so you can see what it will look like before you do anything. Perhaps adding more mid tones and texture will liven up this space. Certain colors will show up dark - like bright red, royal blue, forest green. Light to median gray will show up as a mid tone. Your tan will show up as a mid tone. Your navy-green will show up as a dark color. Just be aware of that as you go forward. If you are interested in mobiles, that will add color and movement (and a conversation piece) to your space. Just be sure to put it somewhere where people won't bump their heads....See MoreCb Rocks
